Well, after a day of work, I have completed it... It was a pain... but its the hardest thing i've ever modeled...

WOW, this is real nice. I'd love to see a wire frame.
Is this polys, or what?:airguitar

Great job.
What modelling technique did you used?
I can see some places where parts of the branches are not connected to others. perhaps the material used are not 2 sided? I also think that the trunk has so much bump.
Would be nice to see the tree in an environment, like, for example a grassy hill :)

Daniel.

Haha,

Thanks. I am aware of those mistakes... I am going to have to redo this tree to fix the problems.. I was hoping they weren't so obvious.. I am doing this for class, and since you mentioned the grassy hills, I have actually modeled grassy hills for the project.. When the project is finished, I will post an update to it.. This is the second revision... The first time i did this, I followed a tutorial... What I ended up with is hillarious...

as you can see, most tree tutorials suck. I have used max, and a scatter modifier to place the branches... Some day I shall make a tutorial about this also...

Yes, this is a polygon modeled tree.. This is actually around 500,000 polygons... My computer is very very slow trying to handle this load. So, I have taken the best shot I could get of the max file without crashing horribly..

Well, I really wanted this imaget to turn out better, but I got rushed and I'm kindof embarrased about it... But, here it is... The final image. Go ahead and slam it. This is the first time i've ever composited something from separate renders.. I have leared a lot..

This image is due tommorow, but i plan to keep fixing it until it looks good. Please help me.
Thanks, Aaron

There is nothing to fix.
IMO it's perfect.

If you like that "hole" in the top left of the tree, then keep it, but I would get rid of it and fill it in with branches + leaves. But that's all on personal choice.

Brilliant.

Its really really amazing. A tip would be to fix his jacket and the way his hands are on the bench. Great work. The best part would have to be the glare off his head. :)

Your images look good. Not real, but certainly very nice regardless, as long as you weren't hoping for photo-real. As far as 500k polys goes... yikes! I had a 150mb scene file with trees in it before and I scrapped it becuse it wasn't worth the time it took to handle it, plus the trees were just for kicks. I suspect your scene file is getting up somewhere in that high area like that. :) Anyways, if you're interested in trees, I suggest you look into L-Systems, which is what I believe they use professionally to create trees. I am not knowledgeable in the least about L-Systems so it's possible that I am talking about my butt, however, in Cinefex the guys were talking about utilizing L-Systems for generating trees for Harry Potter and I thought it sounded promising and is something I myself will probably look into at some point, if just to broaden my horizons. Anyhow, very nice.

thanks guys, the final scene had way over a million polygons... lol.. So, that's why I rendered out separated images of things... That's the major flaw. If I had time to let it chug for about 30 hours, it would look much better I'm sure... but, no time, so I faked the DOF and faked a few shadows, fakted a few branches, Faked the grass... After faking so many things, Its easy to see why the image did not turn out realistic. This is a self portrait. That is supposed to be me on the bench.. I have learned a lot though. How things can go VERY wrong when compositing... Like no matter how many times you try to get rid of every last bit of the background screen, it will always partially be there... No matter what you do to the hard edges, they'll always be there.. So, Next time I'll come preparead.
