View Full Version : The Lost World (WIP, working title)
Suirebit 07-13-2007, 12:21 AM EDIT: IT GOT IN THE BOOK!!! Thanks everyone for your support!!!
I did this image as a personal project, for d'artiste Matte Painting 2, and gave my best for it. It was the most complex project I've ever worked on and also it was a lot of fun and great time. I've started with a composition sketch, following the golden rule, then I built the basic land according to the sketch. After that I've created some of the foreground elements in vue, added the temple and lastly created special and dynamic effects like that rainbow for instance. I'm very proud of the result and in either case it will be a nice addition to my portofolio;

Whats that round blob on the bottom left of the nearest waterfall?
BTW absolutely beautiful, sky is a little flat for my liking. Would there be a subtle rainbow in the waterfall in that type of midday lighting methinks so. I really do like this.
cheers for making me smile

thanks rock; yes Im gonna try a waterfall soon, also an ancient temple, see if it works with the image (at least i had an acient city in the original concept :) )
Sorry, can you be more specific about the blob? I don't know what are you reffering to...thanks! :)

nice integration and overall concept, I still think it need a focal point, the composition is not strong because if the waterfalls are the focal node it looks weird because they are split in two , you have a strong depth here, and aereal perspective is really nice try adding some more elements , like architecture of some kind

Yes, I'm going to add a Mayan temple of some sort, right near the golden point - and make one of the waterfalls 'flow' like from it/through it. I'm working on it now. Thanks James!

Well done mate, I am really proud of you I am gobsmacked. Im still struggling with mine at the moment.
I know why ILM and Pixar artists work in darkened little cubicles now every time I try and concentrate the phone goes or someone wanders in and disturbs you. I dont know how you find the time to do this quality of work. I really hope yours ends up being used.
Loads of respect

thanks man :) well, when I start a piece, there's hardly something that can disturbe me...people end up yelling at me to bring me back to this world :D
I hope it will get in the book too :) I gave my best to create this.
Cheers

Great work all around. Maybe brighten up the right side? I woud think that the middle left rock would have the same brightness as the rest of the foreground maybe? But great job, good luck on getting in!

Thanks!
Nope, first the right side is under the shadow of the middle hill/cliff then it's also under the thick atmosphere created by the waterfalls so it's a combination between shadow and low contrast..:)

Great job and congrats! Hard work does pay off.
I'm coming VERY late (too late, actually) to the party, but the only thing I though of possibly adding was a bit of a rainbow effect on the falls as the spay starts to head up into the atmosphere.
