drass514 07-12-2007, 05:04 PM Ok I have just started this yesterday and I need some help with drawing. I used skecthbook pro to draw it out and now I am using photoshop the clolor and shade. Can anyone give me any suggestion on how to shade this art. I have already did the hair, just on the armor and one the skin.

It kind of depends on what kind of finish you are going for - e.g. a line art/comic look, or photorealism. My first thought, regardless, is that you should ditch the white background for something a bit more neutral like a muted tan or green. That color should show up in your shadows. You also really need to decide where the light is coming from so you can figure out where the shadows will even be. Finally, there is a nice post here somewhere by Linda Bergkvist titled "Thoughts on smooth blending" that might help either way. Just use the search button at the top of the page.
hope that helps.

p.s. her right breast looks like it's being sucked out of a hole in her uniform, might want to shrink it a bit.

Thanks but I have all ready know that. the problem is the tecnic of the of the brushes and how to use the to show differnt types of shading.

Here is the thing - you can't really represent different materials isolated from the environment. For example, metal reflects. What does it reflect? The lights and the background. So you have to decide that before you can even think about brushes and techniques. Any old round brush in photoshop will do for cloth, metal or skin; it's how you use it. Your shading of the face is very basic and to be honest you really need more practice before you can say you know all that :-).
The first step is really to hunt down pictures of metal armor, plastic, cloth etc and copy them over and over again until you see how to lay on the color to get the effect. But to try to be helpful again, go here for a tutorial that may help: http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm. You'll still have to put in a lot of time to make it work.
