07-12-2007, 02:18 PM
So heres the first round of concept sketches...
Heavens' Fury, its like Hells' Angels, but not so dirty and hairy. :) Its going to be a biker gaing of nuns. I know it may not be the most original idea, but it will be fun 'nun' the less.
I plan on having 3 or 4 biker nuns... a tall skinny nun on a chopper with long forks, a fat nun with a little squatty bike, a really old nun on a ancient bike.... all really stylized and fun. Add in some details like fuzzy dice, army boots, maybe alittle tattoo?, and possibly some big hairy bikers who where run off the road in the background....
All in all, its just nuns raisin alittle hell. :)
07-12-2007, 02:43 PM
Sounds like a great idea to me Sean! Like you said, it'll be Nun Fun. I'm glad you got the inspiration to enter.
07-12-2007, 02:55 PM
Thanks Jesse, you know I couldnt let you have all the fun... :)
07-12-2007, 05:18 PM
Yo Sean thats a cool idea man.. I want to see where you take it.. Il keep watching your thread.
07-12-2007, 06:37 PM
This is a simple mockup of the bikes and the scene. Just trying to flesh out shapes and ideas.
07-13-2007, 01:44 PM
Can't wait to see this one...what a great concept!
07-13-2007, 02:05 PM
I did alittle Nun sketching last night... just to kinda get things started. I think I want to push the stylized look more. But its a start.
07-16-2007, 05:18 PM
cool progress Sean, I like the sketches of the nuns. The helmet seems like it could add character, maybe it could have a cross on top instead of a spike. Or maybe one of their ankles could be showing with a little tatto or something. Just some ideas.
07-16-2007, 05:50 PM
Or how about this?! Maybe they could have their nun head cover thing be an actual hard helmet that looks like a nun head cover thing...that may be kinda hard to illustrate without animation, but just an idea I had.
07-16-2007, 05:57 PM
HAHA... thanks for the ideas guys, it always helps!
I was going to try to incorporate several things like the helmet, goggles, leather gloves (the kind with no fingers), big boots.... maybe a leather vest too huh? :)
I want the ladies to look really different from anything I've done before, so Im still trying to nail down an odd style that will work for the nuns. I'll post some more sketchs or what-not soon.
07-16-2007, 07:23 PM
Very nice idea you've got here :).
Even the mock ups of the bikes show nicely their futur rider's personality, I like a lot :D. I especially can't wait to see the ancient Nun's expression !
And why not add a little frail priest on the back seat on one of those choppers? Knuckles white with tension. :D
Good luck with the contest :)
07-16-2007, 11:41 PM
That is PERFECT!!! I was wanting to have a side-car and he would be perfect for it! I'll see if I can have some more solid sketchs by tommorrow.
The sketches are great, and the concept is excellent. The opening test of the bikes in 3d seems good, but I wonder if there is an iconic biker image that you could satirize for the composition... nothing leaps to mind for me, but maybe there is something from Easy Rider, or similar, that would click for most people?
Looking forward to following this one :)
07-17-2007, 05:49 PM
So as I am still working on the concept art for the characters... I thought I would post alittle progress on the scene concept. Im adding a scared priest in a sidecar and a few more ideas.
07-18-2007, 02:19 AM
nice concept u got there!!! would love to see that big fat nun on the teeny weeny little bike finished! i think she has the most comic potential of all
07-18-2007, 02:45 AM
I've already started the big nun, but only in a basic form. As soon as I nail down the acutal concept art for their faces, I will begin the more relevant sculpting.
Thanks for looking!
07-18-2007, 03:23 AM
that's frickin hilarious! Looks like it's gonna have lots of spirit and movement. I'm glad to see you planning stuff out first and then hitting the modeling.
07-18-2007, 09:18 AM
I agree with Kary. There's something that could maybe be tweaked about the composition. Everything's great, but the composition seems to flatten things down a bit.
The two bikersupernuns in the back seem to have too much of a similar pose, and they're at the same level on the road.
07-18-2007, 10:01 AM
this will be fun to watch! i think this is one of the most hilarious entry for the challenge. if you are going for a gang of nun bikers maybe add another one at the back (just some thought)
07-18-2007, 12:37 PM
Hahaha.. what a crazy idea!! really cool! Good luck
07-18-2007, 04:40 PM
hahahahaha :scream::D i gotta love this one! :buttrock:simply awesome dude! .. funny .. direct .. and well thought of ... this is certainly one of my favs! :applause:
good luck to u mate!
07-18-2007, 06:03 PM
Not really any major progress... but I took in everyones advice and worked on the placement alittle more. I like this soo much more that I had to share.
Thanks for the comments guys!
07-18-2007, 06:09 PM
hahaha... great idea! this is a better camera setting.
07-18-2007, 08:20 PM
this is definitely an improvement...not that your last camera was THAT bad. but this definitely composes well and lets you read everything in the shot.
good work cranking through the setup!
07-19-2007, 06:26 AM
It would be cool to add some police cars behind bikes...
(and maybe it would be cool that instead of cops that you put hooligans.. cause you have
nuns (presenting good in real life) go crazy and in police cars hooligans (presenting something bad in real life).. So you have two sides in oposite position..
07-19-2007, 07:03 AM
Ha! I love it. Awesome. The head nun's head seems a little small. Small people are funny, but small people with big heads are hilarious.
07-19-2007, 08:08 AM
Nice! I love the way the front lady's leg frames the Priest's expression!
II'm impatient to see the modelling settle in *bounces on his seat*
Yeah nice composition!
I would make the big nun's bike a lot smaller though, for that comedy effect - perhaps she could have a monkey bike :D and make the priest a bishop and then you can have all the ceremonial gear flowing in the wind complete with a mitre! :bounce:
Keep it up, looks like it should be great!
07-22-2007, 09:58 PM
Thanks everybody! I will try to have some more updates soon!
07-23-2007, 01:23 PM
I've been working on little things here and there, but I thought i would show alittle progress on one of the bikes. You can also see some of the unfinished concept in the background. :)
07-23-2007, 01:32 PM
Sean the bikes are looking dope man... Very cool stylized look and dead on to the sketch. Keep it moving man!
07-24-2007, 01:11 PM
Those bikes are chromed out! Great design on these!!
07-24-2007, 01:17 PM
I think she's got a flat....
No, it looks pretty sweet and stylized!! I like the clean approach.
07-24-2007, 03:54 PM
Love the concept and the few sketchs...it's sooo fun!
I stay tuned! :)
07-25-2007, 03:45 AM
Great style and idea Sean! Can't wait to see these characters and environment develop.
07-25-2007, 06:10 PM
I really like the concept you got going with the biker nuns. Nice work with the stretch and squash with the tires also. The bike models look just like the sketches, I can't wait to see how the nuns turn out!
07-26-2007, 04:24 PM
wooow i love these blend style...
07-26-2007, 07:18 PM
very hilarious idea, i wait the face of the sisters
good job, and good luck :applause:
07-27-2007, 02:12 PM
So here is the begining of the first nun.. aka 'Big Mamma'. Right now its just the base mesh and clothes. I built her in the standard T pose then posed and tweaked her in Zbrush3. I will go back and add details, an expression, and adjust the pose in Zbrush later. But Im trying to get each sister and bike to this point first. Also you can see the logo I made for their gang... The Sisters of Saint Harley.
07-31-2007, 10:21 AM
it all looking great.
jumping off track...
have you thought about kicked-up dust and exhaust from the bikes? i think these elements could play a big role in the final composition and with good timing could add to the comic effect.
07-31-2007, 12:58 PM
Hey Sean Im really diggin the Nun man! Very cool presentation too! Keep going dude :buttrock:
07-31-2007, 12:59 PM
Great start on your character Sean! Makes me think of William Joyce's work (http://www.williamjoyce.com/). I like the fun of it all....Question is, will they all have happy faces or will they be all smug and tough?? Could work great either way I think.
07-31-2007, 02:21 PM
Lol! It's really strange! hahaha! really make me laugh! :D it have funny feel in!
Good modelin on both byke n character, really dynamic and alive expression!
I like how the bike bend out under sister weight! really creative style!
Keep it going man, ;)
08-02-2007, 04:26 AM
Heres alittle update on the bikes. I've been working the the stretched bike and I'll use most of the engine parts to create the other two bikes.
08-02-2007, 04:27 AM
Another view of the chopper. (Theres another one on the previous page).
08-02-2007, 11:42 AM
dude! just went thru your whole thread and wanna compliment you on the consistent style and humour that dominates this piece... The big mama is gorgeous and her laid back pose really contrasts the effort of movement in the bike. Loving it all!
08-02-2007, 12:13 PM
i love your style.... in special these little details.... for example: mirriors...
08-02-2007, 04:32 PM
Now it looks even more gReAtE Sean!
Btw what's that thing on center of 2nd image? is it an air filter?! if so I think it didn't match the whole design either in color, form and scale! it looks more like a floor lamp to me atm; Btw just my look!! other than that I really love this bike! looks like a good wallpaper in this level yet!
it has a great stylized form! really great design on that! congratulations man!
08-03-2007, 02:44 PM
Thanks for the wonderful comments guys!:applause: They definatly help keep me motivated.
Rob: Thanks! I think Big mamma is going to be one of my favorite ladies. I plan to have her with more of a race pose... all hunched over with a need-for-speed attitude and a little black helmet (complete with goofy chinstrap and little spike on top). I will post some more progress soon I hope.
Thomas: Sweet! Im glad someone noticed! I think that the little things will help sell the image and the characters. They kinda show how these bike were made for the sisters! (ps. My wife absolutly loves your entry... great idea!)
Mim: Im glad you like it.. coming from someone as talented as yourself is a great compliment. Yes that is an air filter. Its kind of a popular choice for the custom motorcycle crowd around here, but I see what you mean. I'll try out a couple of different ideas too.
More updates soon...... I hope!
08-03-2007, 03:41 PM
gr8 style man.. its looking fine... love the extreme exagerrations of the bike... cant wait to see what more u do with this... keep up the good works!
08-06-2007, 12:54 PM
Lookin Super sick man! Do you think you'll put any images on the tanks?
08-06-2007, 10:47 PM
JAJAJAJAJAJAJA...really cool idea...jajajaja i'm serius...very original...i will wait for updates!:scream:
08-08-2007, 05:00 PM
looking good man!! like the concept and your well on your way.
you can do soem great details with that composition as well. maybe a cross patterned tread on the tires or something. also could do some stuff with rosary beads maybe.
iono. like the composition you got goin.
08-08-2007, 07:51 PM
I finished the first bike and then retro-fitted most of the engine parts onto the second bike for consistancy's sake...and cause I didnt want to build them again :) But except for the paint jobs, (which I will work on more during the texturing phase) these two bikes are pretty much final.
08-08-2007, 07:58 PM
08-08-2007, 11:43 PM
Great stuff going on in this thread im diggin the concepts, cracking stuff. Love the look of the bikes too man, its all awesome. Lookin forward to seeing more.....
Good luck man
08-09-2007, 07:44 AM
definitely one of my favourite entries! I love toony shapes with a touch of realism to the render.
maybe it's to late for ref pics, and not that it's really needed. but here you go just in case it can give some inspiration:
the 1st of those sculptures are amazing IRL!
08-09-2007, 07:06 PM
So here is the 'Tall Nun' w.i.p. I guess I should name them huh? Anyway, This is just the base setup, nothing too detailed yet. I will unwrap her later and do some fun little detail work in zbrush. But I thought I show some progress shots.
PS. Thanks for the reference Fellah! Those are fantastic and exactly what I needed
08-09-2007, 09:04 PM
Classic! I really enjoy all of the curves and angles Sean... there's so much contrast and unity going on in here... Love it!
08-09-2007, 09:12 PM
Cool nun...she is a wild one!...you get it mate!
08-09-2007, 09:54 PM
oops i think i almost peek under her skirt.. she is looking awesome man.. as for name i think you should name them.. for the skinny one how about the name.. sister katie Holywater :)
08-10-2007, 10:19 AM
Wow, I think (hope) you will win! great progress
08-10-2007, 03:17 PM
Thanks for all the support guys, it really helps keep me motivated.
D. Mack: Thanks man, you bring up a good point about the 'contrast and unity' I never really noticed it before but now I will be sure and think about it while I work. Much appreciated!
melkao: Thanks alot man, she is definatly the wildest one of the gang, I think thats why I like her so much!
Wayne: Hehe... shame on you! I dont know if its a flaw in her design or a plus.... but you will be able to see alittle in the final. I figured I would use it to my advantage and give her fishnets, a garter belt, and some funny underwear to show how wild she really is! (I hope i dont go to hell for this...)
But I think I got a name for her... Hows Sister Esmeralda Anne Rocha or "Izzy" for short. Im gonna try to have their names on their jackets or bike somewhere... but its Izzy, Dutch (the big one), and Francis (the little leader).
masky: I wouldnt go that far... Im just trying to finish. :D But thanks for the support!
08-10-2007, 05:38 PM
