Seems to be a popular car! :)

I think I've stared myself blind on this thing over the last few weeks, so some suggestions would be welcome before i call it finished. Some 'artistic freedom' exercised on some places and I'm fully aware of the fact that it has no interior and the reflections doesn't go along with the lack of environment so there's no need to point that out unless you really, really want to. :)
Besides that feel free to shoot me down!

Also my monitor has some serious display issues, for example the tires looked decent on my monitor but when I checked it out on a few friends screens they were borderline white!?..really freaky (not to mention annoying) and I've tried to compensate for this with tweaking the display properties without any luck whatsoever, so please tell me if the pics are way too dark or bright and I'll try to fix it as soon as possible.

Here we go:

Very nice:) One of my all-time favs! One crit I do have is the material on the tires; just doesn't look right for some reason...might be the colour.

cheers

Apart from the tyres you made an outstanding work... hdri? Or a normal spherical jpeg?

looks pretty good so far. You need to work on the rear decklid a bit though, particularly the part where it meets the roof. On the real car its not one smooth continuous curve from the roof to the decklid, there is a crease all the way around (although the air intake creases much less than the C-pillars). And there is a little bit of crease all the way around the back to make it a seperate plane from the decklid and the sides. And there should be four pairs of those oval cutouts on the back not 2.

Thanks alot for the feedback! I'll look into your suggestions

Max5 +brazil and a just a spherical jpg

Regarding the cutouts in the back they are one of the reasons (although not the only one) for the "artistic freedom" statement :)
I've looked up a bunch of reference pictures, but it seems to be bloody impossible to find pictures of 2 different mclarens of the same model that are exactly alike ( most likely not the same model then, but anyway)..some have 2 pairs and some have 4 pairs (along with other small differences), so *shame on me* I saved myself a few minutes and went with 2 pairs ;)
Since I now know I can atleast make a moderatly decent car (this beeing my first one) I'll go hardcore perfectionist on whatever my next car project might be, and make sure not to mix different models. :)

Eklund: Hey, nice work! I know all about the troubles you went through with this car, the reference photos were all so different and picture of the rear end are almost impossible to find. I spent many nights on images.google. I created both the classic F1 and the LM version of the car. If you do a search on these forums, you should find my cars.

I believe that the rearend photo you have posted is one of the very early vesion of the car, maybe a prototype. Notice that the wing mirrors are placed higher, near the roof of the car.

Aside from the little niggly things, which others have mentioned. One thing about the shape of the car, the top roof section appears a little too flat. This gives the car a slightly squashed look. Refere to your ref pics, it would like so much nicer if you can fix this :)

How long this this project take you? And what are you render times?

P.S. about your monitor looking a little dark, try to change the gamma higher, might help.

Keep up the good work!

Hey pinnner! :) It was mainly your thread I was refeering to with the "seems to be a popular car" remark! ;) REALLY sweet work!! This has taken me about a month on and off on my sparetime so far and rendertimes are about 30-40 min each right now on a 1,4 512 ram..Currently trying to fix the 'crease' thing j9k_80 mentioned and after that I'll go for the tires/tyres, whatever is the right spelling ;)

Regarding the monitor weirdness I've already tried the gamma..seems my monitor cant handle the 'middle' scales or whatever you wanna call it..it tends to go pitchblack or white when it should look into grayscales..it has behaved rather freaky for a while now so i guess it's time to go buy a new one and introduce this one to a dumpster!

Sorry d0c I missed you there..thanks for the kind words :) I'll include a wire when I decide to call it finished and you can check out www.suurland.com for blueprints on this car and just about any other vehicle you might get an urge to create.

really nice stills you got here, the modeling is great. its kinda usual to see mclaren f1 in 3d for some reason, iv´e seen some, this one is ok, i like it, some improvments in the colors, minor details , tires, rims, rear. thats all. great work

Hopefully that took care of the rear!
I've fiddled some with the tire material but when it looks decent on my monitor it looks like crap on everybody elses due to previously mentioned monitor trouble..sligthly annoying, but I'll try to work it out.
