View Full Version : Quadro 3500 for Maya/Mudbox/Photoshop
modelriglightcomp 07-11-2007, 12:53 PM Hello All,
Looking to spec a new computer for home, and was considering the Quadro 3500 as the graphics card. Does anyone have any experience of this card, and if so what are thoughts on it?
I'm looking to running Maya and Photoshop, and potentially Mudbox.
Thanks!

Honestly, as has been discussed elsewhere in this particular sub-forum, it might be worth looking at a Geforce 8800 GTS/GTX instead. You could save yourself around 250.00 and put it towards more storage or RAM :)

I agree with dave. the quadro will run maya faster but the 8800 will be pretty fast also. the speed boost from the quadro wont be worth the extra 250 bucks imo. plus your getting more gfx ram and a dx 10 capable card also if you game any the 8800 gts/gtx will be alot faster than the quadro at gaming.

I don't have any experience with the 8800 cards, but my Quadro 3500 has been rock solid for all of my apps. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Good luck

oh absolutely. they're great cards, without a doubt, but with the current crop of 8800 series cards, the price/performance ratio has really be adjusted to their favour. :)
i still want a FX5xxx series card for myself. :)

I would recommend you go with a "gaming" card versus any of the QUADROs - not that they are bad cards, just that they seem to be overpriced for what they offer.
However before anyone gets a 8800-based card, has the problem with that card and Windows Vista been resolved yet? I know that a few people on here were having problems and in general it wasn't performaing up to it's expected level with DX10/Vista. If/when those issues are resolved, then the fastest gaming card is what I would get... and I guess right now the 8800-cards are the best.

no, they're not completely fixed. same on the ATI side though I've had no problems with my x1900xt-x or 7800 GT and Business Premium. *shrug*
SLI is still "broken" to a certain extent but that's beyond the scope of this conversation.
cheers,
dave
