View Full Version : C4D->Collada here yet?
Does C4D support Collada import/export yet?
My team uses and abuses XSI in middle to get my models imported to Mobile DirectX -applications and we thought Collada is the way to go from C4D to XSI.
Would Eng./Arch. bundles have it in them? Or Polytrans etc?
cheers,
mjt

Why not use FBX? It's here now. Collada still has some issues but should be seeing it more in off the shelf exporters/translators. Deep Exploration has it now but it's feature poor.
I have had good experience with C4D->FBX->XSI
We have some issues with FBX (most likely RTFM or trial-and-error -types of problems), and also the code people are working to export models to PDA device in .dae format. Not sure which wicked file format they use now but so far we've had to use XSI just to translate models into something that our mobile directX reads. But Collada format is the format they are going to use (if not using already)
(ie. we just want to ditch XSI from the pipeline)

You may want to look at Deep Exploration (www.righthemisphere.com) as it has Collada as a format import/export. Be aware that Collada is fairly new, but this tool has a pretty bare bones Collada support.
If you have Polytrans, contact Robert Lansdale at Okino and express your want for Collada. It currently is not available for PolyTrans, so best to do a feature request.
Other apps like Blender, plugins for Max & Maya, trueSpace support Collada as well. However this won't help much if you have XSI already.
