Try the free dirtynuts plugin, search it at plugincafe ;)
for scratches you can use SLA.
look carefully at fusion thats the most important one.

thanks for the input guys, I'm diving into your suggestions as we speak. One quick question, what is this SLA's (I'm drawing a blank). thanks:beer:
SLA is Smells Like Almonds, the bhodiNUT tools. That one gets me all the time too...

thanks:beer:
just open your material and click the triangle thingy next to Images. and there are all of your channel shaders. Including bhodinut sla. Of course don't forget the material menu where you can also get some wholesome bhodinut goodness.

I've been trying out the the dirtynuts plug-in, but can't seem to control the color. Basically I am using an alpha to composite against another bhodinut plugin texture. eiter way I can't seem to be able to contoll the color of dirt. Any advice?
Also some additional tips on proper execution on the fusion would really be great. I've been playing around with it and am assuming that I should be using image maps for the scracthes, etc.
PS I can't find the link to the texture tutorial at DV garage, could someone put the direct link to the tutorial since I'm too silly to find myself it seems. Where is this waldo in the dvgarage website?

You need to register on the site to view the tutorials, so I don't think a direct link is possible. Go to "the Garage", then mouse over the icon at the lower left and select "current tutorial". The next page has a link to older tutorials. The best one, IMO, is the two-part salt shaker top tutorial.

You could also use DirtyNUTS from BhodiNUT. It's cool for generating dirt in corners etc.
