Hi,

i have a picture of fire lifting into flames. I need to add this to some print artwork in coreldraw 13. what is the best way to do this? the flames are on a black background and the canvas i am putting them onto is also black... but when i just add it like that then it prints with 2 different blacks... i have tried cropping it but im not getting a great result... any advice/ideas please http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

cheers.

easiest way to do this without plugins is by channel chopping out the flame, if it's on a black background like you say, this makes channel chopping SOOO much easier.

Go to your channels window and look at your red layer, it should have the most info if you are working with a red flame, control click it and it will select the red color information, select your flame layer (I'd make a second layer of the flame before you do this) and shift click on the masking button to make the mask propperly, when you edit your mask you'll notice it's exactly like the flame, just level it out, bringing whites up and blacks down (shouldn't need to lower black that much) and you'll have a damn nice mask.

Easiest plugin to use if you are working with solid background colors is -

AlphaWorks - v Photo Black Out

it should be at either -

Steven Upham made - www.cybia.co.uk (http://www.cybia.co.uk/)
or - www.thepluginsite.com (http://www.thepluginsite.com/)

I'm pretty sure it was one of those sites.

Only thing is it takes out black or white dirrectly from the layer, so select the layer and use the selection as a mask and play with the trasnparency the plugin made for you.

Oh, just a tip, learn how to channel chop, if you know how to channel chop in the industry, you're life will be sooo simple and people will love you for how fast you can take a subject out of a photo and there are alot of neat effects you can do with it.
