I was working on a piece tonight and I had two layers with the airbrush, one for skin and one for hair. I finished those and created a new layer for the face but when I ran my brush over it nothing appeared. When I went back to the original skin layer and began to paint it worked. I've tried troubleshooting it as well as looking up information online about this issue but I've not found anything. I'm out of ideas, so I hope I'll be able to find some help here.

I'm using Painter IX and I have 'default' and 'ignore' on my layers. If any other information is need I'll be happy to provide it.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Stupid question but are you sure the "preserve transparency" box is unchecked?

That's not stupid at all, and thank you for your help. It was indeed on and I turned it off and now it works. I'm not sure if that's on by default or if I pushed a button accidently; if it's a button issue does anyone know which one?

Also, I'd like to know what preserve transparency does so I won't run into this again. I assume it might have something to do with mark making but I'm unsure. Sorry if the question was a bit lame but thanks again for the help.

I suppose you pushed it accidentally, it can happen especially when you need to push the "pick up underlying color" button :D
I don't know about button issue, i've never seen this kind of bug...as i know anyway

Also, I'd like to know what preserve transparency does so I won't run into this again. I assume it might have something to do with mark making but I'm unsure. Sorry if the question was a bit lame but thanks again for the help. When "On" it allows to paint only on area already painted in a layer.
Sometimes you need to modify the contents of a layer preserving the border of your subject, with this option you can do that easily...hum, i wish my explanation isn't too confuse

Sorry if the question was a bit lame but thanks again for the help.Nothing is lame here, this forum is made for that. :) I've spent months with painter before knowing what the "pick up underlying color" button did, shame on me :D

There is a bug in Painter that when you first boot Painter (Version X) the preserve transparency button shows unchecked when in fact the layer works as if it's checked. Checking it and unchecking it clears the problem.

Hecartha is accurate as to the check box's use. It is used to paint within a layer or selection as a mask so as not to paint outside of it when it is checked, or only within a layer that is already painted. Unchecked, you can paint anywhere on the layer whether it's painted on or not.

Thank you guys for your help. =) I have Corel IX but I want to buy X soon. The trial version i had was pretty neat but it kept crashing every time I wanted to save. Suffice to say I didn't use it often for big projects; which was a pity.

Hecartha - Is pickingup the underlying colour like mixing the two colours on the canvas together? I think I tried that with the Oil paint brushes but they ended up only creating muddy colours so I stopped.

Thank you guys again for the help. I'm determined to understand Corel better since it's rather frustrating most of the time hehe so thanks again.

Yes i think this issue was described here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=112&t=442964) or there (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=112&t=387689) and there (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=112&t=469864) in case you need to know more about this problem
