View Full Version : Object: New Skull
ZeroNeuro 03-24-2003, 12:31 AM Papa's got a brand new skull!
I've been kicking around the skull idea for a long time. Many of you have seen it. But I never knew where to put it, or where to take it. So I have reworked it so that it would be more interesting. So, without further ado, and much ado about nothing...
THE SKULL (just a model. Going to smooth out the details, clean it up. UV, texture.)

Indeed they do! :) They are called 'foramen' and they are the openings for blood vessels and arteries.

Oh man that's cool!!! You're a crazy man!!
Only... what's with the fangs? They don't look very dangerous, curved that much... like the poor fellow bit down on a car door and BENT them. :surprised

skull looks great...are you going for a stylized vampire thing with the fangs?...and do you intend on putting in the blood vessels and arteries?...cant wait to see the textures :D

Cool skull indeed! I like it a lot :D
You should make some cool big gooey eyeballs for those empty sockets - it would give it more personality ;)

hey man..sorry I didnt reply for a bit I think its coming along great
I think you should really hollow it out like a real skull instead of having it end as it does...and add bugs crawling out...and a bear...a bear with a top hat.
just my suggestions tho.

Very nice skull ZN!!...The little cracks and holes are a nice touch but you must break the mirror :). I like King_mobs idea about the bugs. Hope to see some texture on there soon..great work!!

That's an awesome skull. It needs the orbital fissures in the back of the eye socket. That's where the optic nerves and such come through.
Here's a link:

Another update to a WIP.
(Where there's a WIP, there's a way...)
Yeha the orbital fissures, if I do them, will be mapped. But I think I wanna pop in some optics in there. Bwahahah

Creepy!!! -In a good way!
Y'know, the first picture you posted, where the skull has a blue-ish edge to it, kinda like a layer of atmosphere, reminds me of the old Jean-Michel Jarre LP covers, done by some Michael Granger, I believe... (your final result is a lot different though :))

hehe...its great...what do you mean that you are going to use different maps on the top? what kind? do you plan to animate it in some way?

It's pretty much a static object except for the eyes and manipulator arms which I have yet to model. It's basically just a centerpiece focal point in a larger scene I am working on.

Wow nice work!
I was wondering what process you used to model the skull and if you built all in one piece?

Hm. Process... tedius tedius work. Lots of time.. the skull was originally two piece, jaw and cranium. But I cut it up so I could have a more dynamic shader range. All the other stuff is seperate... here is a more current maquette of the object group:
