hello there, :wavey: I don't usually post my work on hear very often because I never think its good enough after seeing all the amazing works I always see on here.
But I promised someone whether I thought it was good or bad I would post my latest work on here so here it is.

it's meant to be a character from The Harry potter Books called a Dementor, Made with Maya

Awesome work!

You have botha very vivid imagination and a great sense of character design. The Dementor looks awesome! :buttrock: :buttrock:

Hi Julian -

I love your Dementor!
Super creepy.
The cloth texture looks near perfect, although I think that the robe itself kind of falls apart around the edges, perhaps some thickness or fraying would help this.
One thing in particular throws me off a little - the back lighting on the neck area. Would light hit that area at all with the hood up like that?

Nice design and interpretation of the character (according to my girlfriend, I haven't read the book). :)

Disgusting - but in a good sorta way. Seriously if you could see that picture while reading the books it would make the idea of the dementors a whole lot scarier. :buttrock:

Looks great.. I think you should consider puting eyes in the character.. it will add soo much realism and make it look even more disgusting.. especially if you make the eyes sunken in and darken the region around the eye.. and of course make the eye looks grose. and if you character is blind then just give it some greyish rotten looking eyes. after that it would look scary as hell.
It will require a bit more work but it would be worth it I think.

Actually, my thoughts on thare are... look at the hood. It looks as if it were added in in Photoshop or something since it carries not much of the texture from the rest of the robe and it seems to not have any effect on lighting... at all.

hello there thank you very much every one for taking the time to comment on my work, and all nice as well thanks

in answer to "bustasnipe" I did find it hard trying to make a good looking character without any eyes, because their a very important part which makes up the face. but I wanted to stay close to the description in the book, and in the book they have no eyes.

to "meats" thank very much meats your right about the cloth,

thx again everyone and here's another pic

Wow!That is really cool.The texturing is amazing:thumbsup:

However, I have one small complaint: The eyesockets should be bigger(By bigger, I mean they should extend farther back into the head). Eyes are bigger than you think they are;) Another really cool touch would be if you the hole where the optic nerve goes and have some bloody chords poking out.Now that would be awesome.

Keep up the great work!!!

I'm currently texturing a character - thinking on cheating on the teeth. but after your post... no way.

Hi their, a BIG THANKYOU to everyone for all your kind comments:thumbsup:

To Psycholink I've attached a wireframe, the software I used was Maya, it was modelled with polygons using my favourite script called Connect Poly shape.

i've attached another pic

Hmmm...well, the dementors in the Harry Potter books always reminded my of the Ring Wraiths in Lord of the Rings. I think for something that gone, dreadful, and evil, his face might would be longer and even thinner. I might would even make his skin more pale to kinda refelct this undead look. Maybe consider no teeth. They look natural, but its just an idea. Maybe make them a little more rotten. Like the skin just hanging on to the bone and whatever is left of the muscles. The wrinkles are nice and the mood is also very good.

The only other thing I could say is to maybe push in the eyes a little bit more. Give them a little more shadow.

The link to your movie brings up the movie, but the movie is just a still frame. Anyone else?

Good creepy character. I am summoning my patronus right now:)

Well first of all this is a sweet image as well as being from a sweet line of books. Harry Potter Rocks!

Anyways, just a bit of critique, I would use some sort of blue lighting when illuminating this guy, since the demontors are said to have an icy touch and they suck the joy out of anything they get near.... also I thought the dementors had a circular leach like mouth for when they suck out your soul.... At least thatshow I remember.

But keep up the good work, that animation looks sweet.

This is some seriously impressive and inspiring work! I agree that the eye sockets need to be more sunken in but, other than that, fantastic work. Ive just looked thru ur website as well...U have so much talent!!! :insane:

Standard Poodle
03-30-2003, 09:21 AM
actually, if I remember correctly, they aren't quite sockets; they're scab flesh. Looks great. I'm trying to think though, what are those things called in the American books? cuz i remember something like those, but not called dementors. or maybe they were.

Your skins and modelling is just mindblowing! It really is taking the model up to a new level! One question though: After doing the colour map you repaint all other maps from scratch or is it based on the color map. It looks to me as if you do every thing from scratch, aren't you? Ever thought about making a tutorial how to get this perfekt "skinny" look? There are thousands of modelling tutorials out there but the real skin tutorials are missing. Anyway don't want to load it on you ;)
