View Full Version : popping/crackling audio on Nforce2
DaForce 03-23-2003, 11:55 PM Hey,
Im experiencing popping/crackling sounds whilst playing game on my comp, its especially noticable in ut2003, mafia and bf1942. These sounds are consistant and only happen every so often, maybe once a minute or once ever few minutes, they are not very loud , but they are noticable, and pretty annoying.
Any clues??
I have the latest drivers for all my hardware and the most recent mobo bios.
AMD 2700
SLK800 with thermaltake smart fan2
artic silver 3
Lian-Li PC60 Alluminum Case
Antec True Power 550w PSU

Powercolor Radeon 9700pro
SB Audigy2

Try to update your drivers/bios. It may work.
EDIT: Oops, I didn't read your post completely...

You may find some info here:

and here:

but reading through those threads there doesn't seem to be a precise solution. People mostly arguing that it's either hardware/irq related or driver related.

hmmm, i think in my case it might be a driver problem. not 100% sure tho.....hmmm annoying

i know in particular BF1942 has always had sound issues. the very latest patch for BF1942 fixed my sound problems.
UT2003 worked for me out of the box. i don't have mafia, so i can't comment there.
the only thing i can suggest is get another card and disable your onboard, or wait patiently for nvidia to update their drivers. :)

Im not using the onboard sound, im using a SB Audigy2...just like it say in my original post. And the onboard sound is disabled.
The latest update to the 9700pro drivers, fixed a frame rate jerk problem in ut2003, but the sound popping is still there.

Good lord, why would you put Creative SBA2 in a system that has some of the best audio (and realtime DD 5.1) on board?
Want to fix your audio, pull out the sound blaster. :-)

hmm something about onboard sound just urks me.
The SBA2 is still a great card.
well actually pulling out the sba2 would probably cause more problems according to the links that Nocturn posted above.

I just thougt something... If you remove the Audigy and play your games with the onboard audio chipset, does it do it again ??

nah i have not tried that. i will do that as a last resort, but the problem also exists with the onboard as well according to the links that Nocturn posted above.
