A character design I'm working on. I've redesigned him three times over the last few years - this is the last time I swear. Just have to get all these mechanicals looking right.

Really nice job here! That has to be the best looking chainsaw arm attachment thing I've ever seen.
Also, while really faint, the anatomy on the guy himself seems perfect (in an over-exaggerated, muscleman kinda way =P )!

Hey thanks for the feedback guys. It'll be a full character so we'll get to see every detail of his arm and the rest of him. I cropped it in for this sketch.

I'm going to go look for some of your guy's work now and check it out.

Some anatomy creeping in now.
It's crazy how motivating it is to do good work - knowing a whole bunch of artists are going to see it. Hopefully they're not all as mean as Nerdyninja and her harsh critiques.

brilliant job on the details, I especially like the little bio-mechanical bits he has all over his body, they're very well placed and well designed. Keep up the good work man!

Some work on the face area - the lower face will be hidden by a mask but I wanted to know what was under there.

I absolutley love this. I really like the way you sort of oversized the chainsaw arm giving that very creepy intimadating feel. I love it. I can't wait to see the full piece.

You just can't go wrong with chainsaws!

It looks so dangerous that I fear for my life and the lives of those around me whne I meet this character.

Cheers for the comments guys - my plan is to make this the best design I've ever done, and your comments are motivating me onwards.

Part of your chainsaw is impossible to do. Near the bottom back of the chainsaw, you have the blade hugging the inside of a curve (a concave one). All chains sit on a track and have tension. All chainsaw paths are usually convex. You need to put a random wheel in to excuse the chain bending as such.

A good example is the small gear set they use in the rear derailers on bikes.

Hey man,
Really appreciate the technical feedback. In this case an outside wheel would spoil the visual too much so I'm going to theorize that this chain is attached to the frame by a recess/seat/groove that has a lip inside which the chain pieces lock.

But it's awesome that you picked that up - really good to get a crit like that. Thanks.
