read a blog by my friend last 2am, inspired me to make a quick sketch b4 dreaming. 'stole' the background idea from an artist called Marc Brunet

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/9273/realrb1.jpg

Erin: Would you recognize me at home alone? Would you recognize this girl
who drinks a beer just because that's what feels right with friends so
maybe it feels ok when she's by herself? Would you recognize this
dillydally girl who wanders the streets in no particular direction,
just to get lost, just to be foundů

Nice sketches! I especially like the one with the little fairy thing. Keira and Natalie look cool, too, I recognized them. ;)

And for the physical-media-asymmetry-thing, you could stick it in front of a mirror and see what looks off. It's not as good as flipping it on the computer to work on it, but I think it helps.
I'll buy a pair of those glasses, though. :P

Just for me, I noticed everything you've posted (expect for 1 pastel sketch) is human studies. I want to see some other works or experiments from you too : D I think you have what it takes to do some environments or other designs.

You are able to use so many different medias and still display a strong style and appeal. Your work is thoughtful and full of emotion- its quite refreshing.

Looking foward to more!

Rabid1 - that's really nice of you to say, I think Ill take your compliment and try hard to apply it to myself - Id love for my work to be just what you wrote - but this art thing... it's this elusive search for the unattainable - I hope to carry it on forever! ;)

embryotic
08-06-2009, 12:41 AM
Thanks Matthew :) - its a bit of an experiment for me I don't draw this stuff often.
The shadow is just one of the many things that ill change when I revisit it - its silly that I didn't make such an easy fix while I was working but I was 'pushing ahead' for the whole time just to see where this was goin'

Shadow, lava bubbles, tighter detail, the character, symbolisms and brush treatment all need to be done ;)

I particularly like the following:

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/8662/pinkweblgehr1.jpg

Great colour combination, lovely sharp forms, and an ambiguous mood.

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4695/lavendererinsmlweb.jpg (http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/9863/lavendarerinlgeweb.jpg)
Like the pose in this one, and the textures on the coat. A blue/happy mood!

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/4344/archway3.jpg
Loads of impact in this one!
Though I think the shadow of the figure should be different, more distorted.

Crisp and soft at the same time. Lovely colours.

Hey man, great lines, 3d skills and forms!

one thing I do see a bit off is the colors and values, the way your hues shift could use more tuning. the saturation is off in some places.

you fix that by doing more still lifes, also have a look at this (http://handprint.com/HP/WCL/wcolor.html)

eilidh

Glad you found the input useful. :)

What we do with the personal network? Um, I never thought one would do much with it. It just shows up on the profile; I think of it as a collection of links to people I know and/or whose art I like, a kind of friendly inter-promotion -- if that's what you're asking!

I like the Painter sketch a lot, by the way. Maybe simulating traditional media is not the goal, but who knows; you might want to use that look for a certain feel in an image. It's certainly a means to an end then.

Thanks for the comments :arteest:

Eilidh - mmm yes lets build our personal networks ;) and our paint simulation abilities!

Thanks for the advice and link Vastel - I'm gonna work my way thru that site and concentrate more on Still life and hues/saturations

I tried this in 2hrs, I wanted to choose the colours myself but once I started colour picking I went nuts....

This was Art Directed by Jon Chapman Smith and was created for the great designer 'Fuman' www.fuman.co.nz (http://www.fuman.co.nz)
Sound Design by Steve Green @ soundaddiction.co.uk

Originally this was designed as an image for 'Hey Tiger!'s visual campaign, with a little extra work it became this animation

Giant Res for print: 7000 x 5200px

Places like that close to city areas are increasingly rare - often they are torn down or renovated, so it's awesome when one has the chance to explore them.
