read a blog by my friend last 2am, inspired me to make a quick sketch b4 dreaming. 'stole' the background idea from an artist called Marc Brunet

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/9273/realrb1.jpg

Erin: Would you recognize me at home alone? Would you recognize this girl
who drinks a beer just because that's what feels right with friends so
maybe it feels ok when she's by herself? Would you recognize this
dillydally girl who wanders the streets in no particular direction,
just to get lost, just to be found…

Nice sketches! I especially like the one with the little fairy thing. Keira and Natalie look cool, too, I recognized them. ;)

And for the physical-media-asymmetry-thing, you could stick it in front of a mirror and see what looks off. It's not as good as flipping it on the computer to work on it, but I think it helps.
I'll buy a pair of those glasses, though. :P

Keep up the great work.

Just for me, I noticed everything you've posted (expect for 1 pastel sketch) is human studies. I want to see some other works or experiments from you too : D I think you have what it takes to do some environments or other designs.

I definitely want to see more from you.

I'd like to be a talented artist that draws all types of things, I heard life drawing and drawing from ref was really important, but it has become a huge crutch.

hey embryotic, very cool sketch thread here, the progress is evident!

You are able to use so many different medias and still display a strong style and appeal. Your work is thoughtful and full of emotion- its quite refreshing.

Looking foward to more!

Rabid1 - that's really nice of you to say, I think Ill take your compliment and try hard to apply it to myself - Id love for my work to be just what you wrote - but this art thing... it's this elusive search for the unattainable - I hope to carry it on forever! ;)

embryotic
08-06-2009, 12:41 AM
Thanks Matthew :) - its a bit of an experiment for me I don't draw this stuff often.
The shadow is just one of the many things that ill change when I revisit it - its silly that I didn't make such an easy fix while I was working but I was 'pushing ahead' for the whole time just to see where this was goin'

Shadow, lava bubbles, tighter detail, the character, symbolisms and brush treatment all need to be done ;)
