Hello there everyone,
I'm a student at Savannah College of Art and Design. I've been watching this and other matte painting forums for a while now and love the stuff that comes out of them. So I figured I'd try my hand at it. Here's a piece I've been working on.
Like the title says it's a WIP, so I'm looking for critiques and suggestions, please.

Thanks a lot,

i think once you pop your photo ref in there it should look alot better. also maybe more atmosphere? and something inthere for scale perhaps.

thanks for the suggestions. I've been having a hard time finding refs that work for the foreground. Any suggestions on places to look? I'd love to just go out and shoot some, but I'm livin in a place with no mountains nearby. Kinda sad really.

try morguefile.com, or flickr.com <-- be sure to make sure you can sue the photos first.

Perspective and composition are two things you should pay attention to here.
Think at what you're trying to transmit to the reader than make it so that his eye progresses naturaly around the image. Make a sketch, several version, try to establish a focal point and a subject. Like a good novel, your image must have a subject (maybe something is happening on that foreground egde?)...cause noone will use matte painting for creating 3 mountains...we can simply photograph that and it's probably much cheaper, from a production point of view :)

And also try to vary the shape of the mountains and the scale/distance...right now they are some aligned /\ I would personally cut those 3 behind, leave only one in mid, more plate/smaller shape.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I'm working on it now, I'll post an update later.
