Hi there.

Heres a setting I made for the short animation im going to do.

The idea is to have a astronaut expressing some strange behavior before leaving earth in his small spacerocket.

Hope you like it.

Cute looking spaceship! Is the astronaut going to be a human?
It kind of reminds me of "Astronaut Farmer" project!
Looking forward to see more of this!
Good luck!

Hey there.

Another update.

The astronaut in his rough form. Im not sure about his dimensions yet.

My idea is to depict the astronaut doing something non-action behavior. Calm but strange.

He could be packing the rocket with a picnic-basket and a tiled blanket while talking on the phone. Ofcause the animation is gonna end with the rocket taking off. Im aiming for 10-30 seconds of animation.

Hi :).
I love the background setting! It has a certain cozyness to it. (It seems like the stool is floating a bit though ;) ).
I like the astronaut's style too, but the torso seems to be missing some detail. (Maybe astronaut suits are like that :p)

Good luck and have fun ^^

Hi there. A bit more stuff in the settings now. Im going back to those sphere trees. They are so cool I think.

DeadSquirrel

Good idea witht he sphere trees. You're right, sphere trees ARE cool! ^^
Might I ask how you made the leaves on this one? :)

aghill
07-21-2007, 12:01 PM
mim-Armand: thanks m8. I dont know about his hair. Think ill redo it.=)

DeadSquirrel: Thanks. About the leaves, they are 4 polygons and snapped around the sphere. Make 10 or 20 evenly around the sphere, and pop the pivot in the sphere center. Then you can copy the 20 leaves and rotate some 10 times or so, to get the desired density of leaves. Actually, I think ill double up the numbers of leaves and then hide the sphere. That looks bit better (but is obviours more heavy).

Hey people.

I moddeled the car which the astronaut is going to arrive in. Hope you like it

Hope to have a storyboard up and running soon.

So far the plot is as simple as it can get. The astronaut arrives at the rocket with his car. He steps out, and takes a picnic-basket and a fuel-container from the trunk of the car and jumps happily to the rocket and puts the basket in the rocket. He fill up the gas on the rocket and enters. The rocket starts and is blow off into the air.

hey, this might be my favourite entry so far. modelling, texturing, style and storyline are all top notch. should be fun doing some sweet dynamics stuff on the rocket take-off.

seems like you could throw some more polys at the car, (aroudn the wheel rim)

that looks a load of fun mate... nice modeling!

at the moment the tree looks like its comming out of the bottom of the truck, mayb its because theres not textures there, but i dont think you should overlap those silhouettes.

other then that it all looks so sweet. Have fun mate... c ya around

Hey people.

Ive been working on the textures on the astronaut lately. I wanted to test out some of the occlusion baking in Modo, and it worked out pretty good. I wanted to make the astronaut suit like some old discardet russian space-project stuff. Further more the red stripes on the rocket is the theme I went with on the coloring.

Hope you like it.

DaddyMack: thanks m8.

Jhonus: Thanks, and yea - that rocket dynamics is gonna be loads of fun to do. Never really done something like it, but it will be fun trying out. And yea, theres prolly some objects which needs smooth... im so lazy=)

overcontrast: Thanks. I think your right on the composition and framing so far. Those trees should be moved to the side for the final framing.

hey, i noticed one thing about your astonaut. I know russian )(its my 2nd language) and i saw you put the label on his suit saying RUSSIA in russian, so you mispelled it a little bit, switch the last letter with the previous and it will spell russia right then. Or maybe you made this mistake on purpose& so not to make think of him as russian astronaut& well, hope i helped you . i like your project a lot, but i think you could create a more interesting plot(modeling and anm takes as much tine time or even less than creating astrong and interesating plot) good luck!!!

aghill
08-14-2007, 12:56 PM
overcontrast: Thanks m8. really looking forward to make a animation test on the guy

Serebryakov: Hi there and thanks. Hehehe, yea I googled "russian space project" and found this word (I dont know anjy russian so im just totally ignorant here) :) Ill swich those two last letters around. thx =)

About the plot, I think this competition is all about building up a personality, which normally is assosiated with another behavior, that suddenly changes. I don't want to depict a strange situation but a strange behavior, on this character. Maybe the plot could be a bit more spicy..

Thanks.

Hi again.

A fast pose here. Ive been rigging the last couple of days. Dont have too much time for super skinng, and I dont think i'll do corrective shapes for the shoulders etc. Its really basic for now. If I need some better deformation later on Ill do it, but for now its a bit of waste.

Ive come up with a new plot too. Same scene only shorter, easier and much more funny/strange :)

Hope you like it.

HI again.

More work on the set. The landscape is rocky and grass. Im thinking of making some various red flowers, to give the green grass a bit more flavour, and maybe there could be a cornfield on the other side of the fence.

As for the storyline a new idea has come up, this one being much more interresting and fun to do. Wont say to much yet, since its kinda surprising. Only that this rocket isnt for flying:)

Anyways. Hope you like it. Cya!

Hey there.

Been workin a bit on the final look of the short animation.

Hey there.

Another look test here. Im trying out a more redish ligt. It gets so cold and green all of it with the last blu tint I had.

Furthermore ive desaturated all of the picture a bit and added a soft brown circular ramp at the edges to give it a old and worn look. I kinda like this. What do you think?

Right now i can render a color pass with Final Gather in 2 minuts. I hope to have it around there. The animation is gonna be around 20-30 seconds.

!!!SPOILER!!! :-)

So far the story is:

Shot 1:
We see the rocket standing alone in the scene. suddenly we can hear a car, which entes the scene and stops hard (squashing down in its halt).

Shot 2:
The astronaut steps out of the car and run over to the rocket. He checks for anything amiss on the shell of the rockey, and takes up a remote control to open the rocket. He steps inside.

Shot 3:
A bird flies by in the background and nothing apearent happens. The sound of a zipper opening followed by the sound of wated dripping down into water. Then we hear a flush, like that from a toilet, and the door opens. The astronaut steps out. He steps into his car and drives away.

shot 4(eventually):
The car dissapear, and the rockets exhaust buckles a bit and pee drips out from underneath it.

THE END.

Hope you like it.

SEMSAHMER: Thanks! I do think theres alot of great entries in this competition.. its gonna be great to see the fininished.

medunecer: thanks:)

The leafs are modelled. Ive done one leaf of 4 polygons and snapped it to the surface of the sphere some ten times, combined them and given this 10-leaf sphere the same pivot of the sphere, then copied the leaf-sphere.. its pretty simple. Sometimes with many of these trees (cause they are pretty heavy to render) you could make a shadowcaster-sphere in the leafs and turn off shadows on the leafs, to make it better to render.

Hopefully I can have a simple camera-blocking done later today.

Nice character animation!

A few things, when he gets out of the car, he steps on the "foot leener", making the car lean to one side. But it's a bit difficult to see where he steps,(looks like his right leg is on the ground, making his left leg appear to be the last one in the car) so it looks like the car jumps back a little to lait. -sorry, that wasn't to good explained! he he.
Why is he staring twice at the door opener. I makes him look confused, as if he's not quite sure what it is.
The part when he enters the ship is beautiful!
