View Full Version : Animation: 30min.VideoGraphicNovel

Just posted 30 minute animation (made with Blender software) and would like some feedback. It's an animated sci-fi piece done in the style of an esoteric graphic novel.

Well I don't have time to watch this all right now but a few notes from the first bit I watched. First of all, a fully downloadable version instead of streaming would be nice. Second, to be harsh, after the fairly lengthy and boring opening credits (all credits are boring IMO) there was nothing to pull me into the story right away. One needs something to just suck you in immediately, especially if you opt for opening credits, and instead I was left feeling rather blah. I haven't watched more than the first minute of the actual piece yet but I will do so later. Just some thoughts for now.

First of all a marvellous effort this looks like a huge project that must have taken a lot of time to do, interesting ideas well executed. Please also forward my congratulations on to the voice actors and other contributors.
I agree that the animation does suffer somewhat from the high compression but (as I am on 56K) I would have selected this option, it would also be nice to have a higher quality version and possibly a trailer too.
The story has great content although I believe that it would have been nice with more dialogue instead of a monologue and some greater detail on the conflict. Very nice modelling, lighting and camera work.
Congratulations on a substantial project well completed.

Thanks Frank... I appreciate your comments.
I agree about compression... but it was the only choice... I do have a divx version at 187 meg filesize on web now... but it's costing me an arm and a leg for the bandwidth... and server is not very reliable... Oh, well... next week I should have the higher res divx on another reliable site...
WhiteRabbit... I agree with your comments about opening credits... but I wanted to put them in... giving the viewer time to light up a bong, bowl, or joint...
Frank... I actually find it amusing you thought this was a huge project... actually - it was a personal proof-of-concept I undertook to show myself that a project could be completed with nothing but a home computer... all audio was recorded directly onto harddrive with a cheesy computer mic... all 3D was modeled/rendered with Blender on a Dell Dimension Desktop computer with a P3 600mhz and 128 megs of ram... A few of the voiceovers were recorded by people in other countries who recorded it on their own computer mic's and file sent through email... Direction was given through the use of NetMeeting... It was all a very interesting experience... And the actors send their thanks for your comments...
As far as a trailer... I had posted links to two different trailers over the past 6 months on www.elysiun.com (a resource for blender users). Perhaps I should re-post them...

If you follow the original link - there's now a stable link for the 187 meg divx version of the half hour movie. Quality is a helluva lot better.
