Hello! New painting right away after finishing Snow White. Here's "the birth" of my birth of venus...reference (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/55420811/) is being used for the figure, although i have drawn it freehand except for a little help with the grid in a few spots. I need the pratice...
I will have to upload the imgs as attachments since photobucket has "problems" with artistic nudes...(no comment). So I hope it's not a bother for anyone viewing the thread...sorry!

Don't mind the sketchy waves and silly hair, just trying to figure out how i want the water in the bg.

i managed to work a few hours on it today. the face looks weird, but it's still in a very sloppy phase...so please disregard my sloppiness!

That's shaping up really nice Vivien! I'm expecting a lot since your last piece.

I couldn't see the ref (why does my computer think I'm underage? Drat!) but aren't the lower parts of her legs a bit short?

Hi all! First of all thanks to all who pointed out the feet thing, I hadn't noticed that the legs were too short; I think they are ok now, I made the legs longer and also scaled the feet up a bit, they looked too small before. What do you think?

All colors at the moment are temporary, I'm still trying them out!

RicoD, I think deviantArt censors nude photos unless you're logged in!

Looks a lot better! I still think the legs are too short though..maybe a bit longer..just the legs..like half a head more...The feet look great! Everything else is coming along very nicely! Cant wait to see more of it done!

Beautiful start! Nice "classical" pose and composition.
I'm not expert at anatomy or figure drawing, but for my knowledge legs are long enough. I feel like the feet are a bit to big, but it might be my personal taste :)
I like the new color variation, makes the picture more vibrant.
Cant wait to see more, I'm pretty sure the rendering will be excelent like in your other pictures, but I'm extremely curious if you planned to add some "surprising twist" to this beauty ;) as "Snow White" for example...

small update - worked a little on the base of the drape skirt thingy and also widened the thighs (maybe even a little TOO much); i do think that was part of what was making her look strange in the leg area though! maybe the legs are still a little short, i can't really tell at the moment as i have been looking at it too much and i'm hot and tired right now.
i am not happy with how the color of the skin turned out - it is very grey and pasty looking so i'll have to fix that.
i am off to eat an ice cube!

*edit: here's a go with "flickr"...

This is looking fantastic! My crits at this stage would be that the highlights on her body and the drape could use more saturation. Also her should passing through the hair like that kind of breaks the flow of the curvature of the body. I'm not sure what to suggest for it, though.

I do like those little color variations in her skin, which makes it very vibrant and gives it a more natural look. Very nice! As for color, the grey-ish feel does go quite well with the sky, but maybe that's because I live in the Netherlands and we tend to have very grey-ish light here. Maybe a bit of color adjust will suit your needs?

I think the leg problem lies in the lower part of her left leg (our right). I don't know the English word for it. Since her leg's bend, it's hard to measure. But I think the knee should be higher, though not so high that both her knees are on the same height. Also, her feet are more red than the rest of her body, which makes it look like she had her feet in water that was too hot.

Hmm, they're kind of forcing me to get a deviantart account then ... ;)

Well hello there! It's been awhile, I've been busy and haven't had much time to paint at all. I finally got a couple of hours in today and thought I'd share. I'm excited that I'll have more time to paint in the very near future...!
I think there's been a change in the theme here but I'm still unsure, so I'll hold off on any descriptions. I can say pretty much for sure though, that it's not aphrodite anymore.

Your thoughts/opinions are always welcome!
