View Full Version : Link To Perspective

I have a little question here, I want to know if there is a way to link objects to a perspective view. I know that you can easily link to a camera view but what I want to do is create my own lighting setup for modeling in order for the setup to show contour of the model a little better instead of having the default light in the front all the time I want my costom lighting setup to follow my perspective view all the time especially since the camera view is not that fun for navigation when modeling.

Thanks

I use this sometimes: Light Rig (http://w3.chrlmi.cablespeed.com/~halmich/tech-slop/lightrig/index.shtml).

I use the camera with the lights for exploring the model, and perspective with default one light for modeling. Works dandy for me.

You know that’s exactly the effect I want but I do actually like the idea with modeling with that custom lighting setup instead of just using it for navigation, one of the reasons is that often times I model with a single perspective view and another is that the default lighting isn’t all that good for getting feedback on the changes your making to the contour of the model since the details look rather flat with that single light but at the same time I don’t like the idea of having a stale lighting setup when modeling that’s why I was looking for that same effect in the perspective view. The only reason why I don’t use the camera view is because I find it harder to use for navigation when modeling.

If you use a target camera, the buttons in the lower-right are the same for navigating in perspective (they just look different and orbit rotates around the target instead of a selection). I don't know about the hotkeys and middle mouse button, though.

I prefer perspective with one default light for modeling. I don't see any reason why you can't model with the camera and lights in the light rig. Might have to make a few workflow adjustments, but I'm sure they will be minor.

This subject has been brought up several times before. So far no one has stepped forward with a way to link lights to perspective. Maybe we'll get lucky this time around and the light rig/camera hack will obseleted.

Yeah, I guess that’s what I was looking for was some kind of script or hack to get around this :D. I really don’t have problems with camera navigation but there just harder than perspective since you don’t have the ability to zoom extents or to focus on an object or part of the object, viewport clipping while I orbit the camera view and hot keys since the default ones don’t work. Guess I’ll have to adjust but were I’m having another problem is the camera orbit command, I can’t find it in the hotkey editor, it’s not under orbit, camera orbit, rotate camera or other obvious names.

Thanks for the help though :)

Okay, I've been keeping my eye on this idea since it first popped up in the tips-n-tricks thread. I 've come up with a way to get lights to follow the perspective view's "camera". I've been holding off on posting anything about it for a while because it still has issues and needs a user-friendly interface. Give me a little time to package it up, and I'll let you decide whether that sort of setup is really all that useful.
