HI.. first idea. babies building huge sckyscrapers and buidling s with lego... acting like real workmen. also strange two of them having a fag break in the forground. I really like the caution sign spelt out with spelling blocks toy.

NOTW; this is by no menas the final composition..just a concept

I like the idea, but it makes sense that babies would use legos and blocks. I'd love to see a take where normal construction workers use things like legos to build with, or lincoln logs :)

I'd agree - be much more intreresting for a full-on industrial building contractor to be using lego (or duplo, to be even more basic).

A baby having a fag break is reasonably strange, but also slightly creepy - not sure I'd particularly go for that one, unless you're going to use it to make an ethical/moral statement of some kind.

And you should definitely still include the 'caution' sign spelt out in blocks...

I dunno, it may be just me, maybe something else tho, like overexeggerate it a bit. Make them have huge toy stogies instead. Composition looks strong. Keep it up.

O NO!!! my poor old ibook died on me yesterday while i was scaning in my new concept. bought it into the apple store and apparently its the logic board, a known problem with that perticular machine and it might be free to fix if still covered by apples extended warrenty on known problems, yet becasue my mac's quite old it might not and could possible cost me 500 pounds to fix, thats like 900 dolars to you americans. Obviously will buy a new mac if that is the case, but there is the small problem of having no money at all to buy a new computer or fix the ibook.... so ermm... bit stuck and pissed off. I am now awaiting a call to see if it is covered. crossed fingers.



My new concept is cupid sneaking in to a house and sneakily looking up a sexy housewifes skirt while she is ing housework.. i think this is the final concpet that i wil stick with. feels right and i think i can make a funny interesting illustration of it. your thoughts please . . .

got home from work and started messing around with brushes and turned into this which is an idea of someone (goddess?) swingign through the universe from planet to planet.... very strange

hi.

i like this alot. had the image in my mind as i was napping. elephant, outside of its normal habitat, the arctic. ity is close to death, when a bunch of arctic hares turn up with a basket of apples and help the poor creature out.

hi.. now i have the basic form and colours for the piece, i have flipped it back and forth horizontally and there are no obvious problems so i will now start detailing. what do you think so far, colour and comp.. and changes...

btw- i plan to add lots of little wierd details such as a lump of ice sticking up and an ever so subtle image of a butterfly caught in it etc.. stuff like that.

I think the elephant idea needs a bit more action, like 2 opposing rabbit teams sledding down the mountain with the elephants as the sled? As soon as i saw the pic thats what popped into my head.

I might be adding arctic fox's instead of hares. also i might paint a fox trying to make the elephant warm by wrapping it in a flag that it has found from one of the human arctic bases.... probably use my own countries flag if i do that, as the english flag is a white background with a red cross, keeping with the colour theme. (hmmm i seem to be getting o so patriotic right now.. my avatar the national flower, red rose, and am about to put our flag in the painting.long live the queen!)

Haha I only suggested it because thats what I interpreted from the pic when i first saw it. Taking the rabbit off his head has really solidified your original idea. As for the arctic fox idea, Id say have the foxes and the rabbits working together, creating even more of an odd behaviour feel.

Looking nice, Wil. As the elephant is the central figure, I prefer the layout with him facing/moving towards the right, so that the motion of the piece is left to right, how we westerners tend to parse illustrations.

It's not entirely clear that the rabbits are helping the elephant if you don't already know that's what the painting is about. They could be stealing his/her apples. Or just frolicing around them, singing "Ha ha! We're adabted to the cold and you're not... Tee hee!" Taking the rabbit off of his head was a good start - that one felt like a vanquishing bunny - but maybe if it were more clear that the lower rabbit were pushing an apple towards the elephant but being closer to it and having body language conveying pushing a heavy object more than just running? Maybe if more than one were involved in similar actions?

Anyhow, just some ideas... good luck with it!

I really, really like your concept. It's definitely a heartwarming piece, which is nice to have with all the humorous one around. I dunno about your concern of it not being clear enough; I understood the second I saw it, without reading anything, BUT, if you wanna be sure, my suggestion would be to make the footprints of the hares in the snow more evident, and suggest a trail to show they've really pulled the bag of apples there.

hello,

a couple more hours although not obvious changes on this site. I have started painting the trail in the snow that the rabbits have created pushing and dragging the bucket of apples in the snow. I think it adds alot to the overall composition. Worked on the elephant alot more too though cant see much differnce on this compressed image. Also working on the forground snow a bit more and i have added a butterfly trapped in ice in left corner. Going to redo all the hares in much better poses (i hope) next and work on the background.

i am a bit tird of looking at my elephant painting at mo so i thought i would give it a break and start developing my teddy bear with a panty fetish idea. . . instead of him lookign up the hpousewifes skirt, frustratingly she has decided to put on a long gypsy skirt ... how is our bear supposed to get his panty fix? well he uses a fan of course to blow her skirt up. this will be compostion roughly with the light coming in through kitchen window... she is washing pots f thats not obvious... what do u think?

ps.. this will probably be using a full line art approach rather than straight into painting.. but we will see

The teddy bear concept is funny, but the elephant one is MUCH stronger and MUCH better imho.
I think the girls expression is a bit off though, she doesn't look surprised enough to me.
I'm loving the elephant one, keep working on it, its wonderful :D

i think what's wrong with the girls face is she seems to be looking at the viewer, whereas I would think she'd be looking at the source of the wind. atm it seems like she's expecting the wind and looking at the audience in a provocative way. suppose it depends on what you want to go for :)

also her left food seems a bit twisted, its hard to say but i would think it might face the sink more in real life..not too sure though.

I agree with everything Layer01 just said. I like the teddy bear concept very much, but I feel you could go so much further with the other one. I mean, a funny picture is nice, everyone likes them, but once you've got the joke, that's it, there isn't really more to it. But this... it raises so much questions. Like, how did this elephant could have got surprised in the snow like that, what he was doing there, why he is alone, what the heck a frozen butterfly is doing in the ice... :)

But the other one is very good as well, so go with your feelings. It's just that I'd be sad if that poor elephant was left behind in the cold.

The idea for my image centred around animals acting in strange ways. I came up with the idea of arctic hares , timid cretures, actively helping something huge that is in need, ie the elephant. To add to the strange behaviour of the animals I made the whole environment strange, for example the elephant in the arctic, a basket of apples that the hares have somehow got in this wilderness and little details such as a butterfly trapped in the ice.

Very compelling, and I like the elephant image best. Maybe replace the apples with carrots, which have a higher association with rabbits. Maybe there may have been elephants freezing at the beginning of some of the ice ages, but none with helper rabbits. These helper rabbits could make an elephant snowman, put a blanket on this elephant, and make a fire to keep him warm and even give him a mug or bucket of with some nice hot coco. Hate to see any animal suffer, so a giant snow bunny could really help to keep him warm. Best of luck
