just painting a little:

Adding an update of the face. When I was detailing, I found out that the looking needed more aggressiveness:

Their body proportions seem ok, are you going to paint this in manga style or in realism?

The style is a pretty far stretch from Clamps original art, which is cool though, becuase its your take on it. Are you going to put clothes on the girls or not?

Hi Oziel. Great to see another fan of these girls here :) I simply love this anime/manga, it was my first love on anime and it's yet one of my favorites.
At a first glance I don't see anything that make me associate your art with the MKR. But I think it's a bit early to say anything on this respect. I'll be watching this thread to see what direction your art will follow.
I've started a fanart with MKR too - btw, I have to finish it  - and don't know if it has any utility for you, but maybe you could take a look - http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=31&t=314385
Keep going, man.

I was gonna say jramauri, I just took a look at your stuff. I find it hard to believe that its coincidence that oziel is doing this piece. Rayearth is an old anime and you have a highly realistic style take on it. It looks like Oziel is going for directly the same look. Maybe he's inspired by you. I'd take that as a high form of flattery.
I have the rayearth artbook from the first series, the character designs are just fantastic. Did you know that Makona is a featured character in Clamp's new Captain Tsubasa? I think thats what its called.

I do believe is just a coincidence. If we are really fans of this anime, we'll never forget about it :) Frequently I read the manga again and again, and look the pictures of Rayeath that I have on my computer. I love the CLAMP's works, and have a lot of mangas made by them, like Chobits and CC Sakura. I'm pretty glad to see someone more depicting my dear knights, I wish more people here liked animes! :)
I know about Mokona. He and various chars of CC Sakura are present on "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle" (Captains Tsubasa is an old soccer manga). I haven't read yet, but I intent to buy this manga...

Ferril: Thanks, Im going to paint it in realism
smackbringer: Hey, thanks for your comment, Id used to love these girls on Jr high school, this painting will immortalize the feeling for them, and I want to put some of my style in this image, hope to do a good work, and yes, maybe some white clothes will make them look cool, thinkin about it, they were naked half of the time on the series, ahahah.
jramauri: Ive seen your work, its really nice, in fact, I saw your portafolio a long time ago, dont remember when. Ill be watchin your work.

The poses for the girls:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v457/Oziel/Rayearth/Poses.jpg
A little more detail to Hikaru, I just wanted to put effort in the face, to inspired me with the other girls in their respective time, but still need more work. And I added a body reference from poser to do a better work, and save time.

I's been a long time, but here I am with another little progress.
I wanted the hair to be a little more messed up, and here is the result, the plait still needs work

Its been a long time since my last update
Im trying now with Fuu, hope it evolves well, I think I should not put her glasses, this to give more glamour to the painting

This is looking rather good. Nice to see you working on Fuu, helps to even out the progress. Can't really add anything, but see how Fuu looks with glasses. It may work or it may not.

This time I worked a little with Umi, and I need to detail more the face of Fuu.
Im still thinking what color is the real one for Umi, Ill try with balck hair and light blue shines on it

You use a 3D program to help you with poses but on the final stages dont forgeth to eliminate this sensation by redrawing all fingers, elbows, arms, etc. I like the design of the sword, its frightening even for the wearer with those upper spikes.

Ive worked all weekend on Fuu face, Im a little glad with the result, I think the next step will be the hair.
Another thing, I think I would change the design on the sword of Hikaru, maybe using the real design of the series. (Thanks laurghita)

Now Im really glad with the result of the hair and face of Fuu, maybe it looks a little diferent from the style I used with Hikaru, but Im practicing to define my style
Next I will focus on the face of Umi... This is going to be a challenge to me, 3 faces in just one picture :wise:

I think the black-ish shading is the biggest problem here. It makes them look like lifeless Poser models rather than people. Saturate the shadows more and perhaps lighten them in some areas. You used Poser for the bodies, which I suppose is okay for proportions, but I think it's a terrible idea for colors. The elbows look weird too (flexible elbows are not easy to make, so I can see why many Poser models are lacking in that area). They look like they're missing bits of bone.

Now Im working on Umi face, I think that in this moment the expression has a sad look, but thats going to change, it needs work...
eishiya: Thanks for posting, I already knew that, Ill work on the bodies later, first I want to finish their faces, and later will work on fingers, body skin and shadows, more later on the swords and gems they are going to carry.

The faces look like they are going to be great so far. The bodies will come after like you said. I will often appraoch my work methodically, such as doing certain parts of the painting first, then adding on later.

Hi Oziel
Great work on faces. I love Fuu, she's my favorite knight, and I think her face is just perfect. I think Hikaru's face could be more girlish. She's looking too serious, too adult on your illustration, and we know her personality is not exactly this way. The same I can say about Umi, I think her face could be more socialite style, sort of "i know I'm the one" expression, selfish atitude. Something like Paris Hilton, or another young celebrity. Although she became more "human" along the series, that atitude never changes...
Umi's hair could be lighter... It's strange to see her with black hair.
I'm looking forward for updates, your work its coming along nicely.

An update on Umi's face, I've changed the look on it, more selfish look, more egocentric look, well thats what I think it looks, you can comment
Shiki: Thanks for your comment, very aprecciated.
jramauri: Well man, I think I did what you said about Umi's face. Talking about Hikaru.. well I think I can make a little changes, but I've declared the face done. Another thing, I want this picture to be the real as possible, and putting a lighter color on the hair of Umi will broke the bit of the realism on the painting. Besides, all your comments are very welcome, you have helped me out a lot, so much thanks!

Nice work :) I don't know these characters, but you did a great job on the eyes especially. The anatomy looks a little bit off though, I think that the 3D model you have used have some anatomy issues, especially on the arms, elbows and wrists.
Otherwise, it looks good :)

Ive added some detail to the background, added the sketch of the sword of Umi, and I gave more contrast to the face of Hikaru, to match with the contrast of Fuu
Dianae: Thanks for your comment, Im honored to have a critique from you, your art is really nice :)

The redhaired girl is looking very good, now that you fixed her arms.

I really like the blue haired girl, I like the glow of her skin and the background behind her. though I think her ear is a bit ...up? maybe is just me :/

I have changed the hand of Umi, I wanted the gem to be shown in the left hand of the knights, it only remains the swords and the skin of Fuu

I need to finish this badly!
I have fixed Umi's breast and hand. Some detail on Fuu's dress, and the skin needs to be painting.

Very good, my friend. Looking more carefully, I found that the swords of Umi and Fuu aren't following any kind of perspective. Don't you think you could make those swords slightly turned relatively to the camera? They could be positioned in front of each girl, wich yould give us a slight tilt on their blades and handles. This would add a bit more of depth on your image, in my opinion.
Keep it up.

Next time I post in this thread, this painting will be finished, I promise.Hey, Oziel. Been following this thread for a while as I am, quite frankly, a sucker for anything anime-related. I love the way this has progressed, and it's great that you've been able to adapt anime-style characters to something a great deal more realistic.
I agree with the comment on the swords above... they appear to be rendered a bit iconically, facing the viewer rather than conforming to the character position. Also, for some reason, the face of the girl on the right of the image (blue) appears to be off somehow. The one on the left (green) may have a little of the same kind of distortion going on, but the hair covering her right eye diminishes the effect.
Back to blue, it seems as though the eye levels aren't meshing... her left eye appears to be higher up than her right, and turned too far toward the center of her face. Since the girl in the center (red) looks great, I'm guessing this is due to the perspective issues that occur when rendering a turned head - I know it gives me trouble a lot of the time.
Everything else looks great, especially the detail work - excellent dedication to your work. Keep it up! :)
