Ya, that would be awesome!
I do level art right now and would love to see what other people are doing. Alas, I cannot post any of my art because of work restrictions. Maybe I'll make something on the side.

Here are some pics from the levels I created for JediKnight II in its peak...

And here is a link to a bunch of SS's from the map I 'finished' level editing for JKii on... ended up being around 1/6th complete when I stopped: nan_ctf2 (http://maps.kektik.com.au/levels/nan_ctf2/)

With a likely revival when JKiii comes out :)

To pedantic:Now thats a nice map :bounce: ! dont know why but im really into blue tones and this is a symfoni in blue :) like it like it alot...

Im right now looking for courses in basic arkitechture at my university to learn about basic construction principles and maybe add to knowledge of historical building to later inspire in levelmaking... does this seem like it would be a good idea?

Thanks :) The thumbnails are two maps, the first two from my first level, the other four from my second. The ones in the directory would of been my first CTF level, but alas, never became complete. I aimed that one closer to the Star Wars theme in order to get it some more popularity. I noticed maps that replicated scenes from the films received a lot of attention regardless of how well/bad they were built - put a big dent in the motivation to map for a community that doesn't aim for getting the most out of the game at hand.

As for a Uni course in architecture... I wouldn't take it unless you have a wider scope of what you want to do once you finish there. If you follow someone elses teachings then your work will be less original as well, unless of course you're going for realistic settings. Though even then you can always just reference off of photos.

I was just thinking architecture to get a better grasp of basic construction, making things that would hold, the applyíng it on for example futuristic aswell as ancient enviroments, im not talking about a five year study just e few weeks since im alredy here in school why not use the time :)

just took a look at the pics on the link, how is the smoke (alt gas or what ever it is) around the tubes in the second level made?

It's done through using a fog shader. Can be quite a resource hog though, especially when viewed through transparency like the grating on the floor.

I don't recommend spending the time or money on taking architecture unless you want to do some wicked crazy hyper-realistic stuff. Remember, in games, it's all about what you see. By picking up a few books on different architecture styles, you can probably learn what all you need to know for the most part.

Example, if you buy a book on cathedrals, you can see how most are built, shared traits, basic structure and so forth. Using these things as refs and then creating your own style of Cathedral, or if you want to build, say, a gothic style, use bits and pieces from different ones.

Weeell one at a time :)

Pedantic, ah thanks ill look it up :)

Grubwyrm, i dont have to pay for it, educationwise, education itself is free here, and time is all i have :) with an exception for other classes.

And I wasnt thinking of using the architecture skills in lowpoly game modeling :) thatll be for high res work...

not that it CANT be used in level design...
