View Full Version : How to enable pressure sensitivity?

First, I have read the archived threads that explain that brushes in Painter have an "expression" setting that should be set to "pressure" and checked.

Found it , done it, but it just results in no brush action at all.

If I uncheck the option the pen cursor behaves like the mouse, painting as if pressure were at maximum. If I check the option no color will be deposited at all no matter how hard I press.

I'm confident the tablets (a Wacom Graphire and an Aiptek) are working correctly since the pressure sensitivity works fine in other paint apps.

Any ideas?

I'm using Painter X on Win 2000.

Brush Tracking; move all the sliders to the right and see if it improves.

Hi,

There are Expression options for several brush controls, not just one. Here's a list of all (or most) of them:

Opacity Expression
Grain Expression
Size Expression
Feature Expression
Angle Expression
Resaturation Expression
Bleed Expression
Jitter Expression
Impasto Depth Expression
Airbrush Flow Expression
Liquid Ink Volume Expression
Color Expression

The box to the right of the Expression drop down list is the Invert box. When it's checked, it reverses the Expression option effect. Very few brush variants, in their default state, have the Invert boxes checked, so I'd suggest that you not check the Invert boxes unless you're absolutely sure you want the Expression option effect reversed. Experiment on a blank Canvas to find out what happens when the Invert box is not checked, then when it's checked.

Pressure is only one of the Expression options. There are several:

None
Velocity
Direction
Pressure
Wheel
Tilt
Bearing
Rotation (only works with a Wacom Intuos 3 and 6D Art Pen)
Source
Random

I am having the exact same issue. I am using Painter X with a Wacom Intous 3. The pressure expression is selected, pressure works in PS CS3 just fine. If I have pressure selected it will only work at the pase opacity that is set, if I invert it will do nothing, as if it;s always at full pressure (inverted would of course make full pressure do nothing). Brush tracking solved nothing. I have tried the normal pen and the airbrush with the wheel. The wheel will also do nothing. The drivers are the latest and the functions work in PS CS3.

Whats going on?

Thank You

Actually a re-install fixed it. I thought that perhaps I installed Painter before my Wacom, but this was not the case, it worked anyway.

Working fine now.

i would still like to hear your answer. however, i just found this thread over here: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=112&t=279250&highlight=wacom+airbrush+wheel : that helped me get the wheel on my airbrush working, so i "think" my problem is fixed.

thanks for looking,
L
