View Full Version : tutorial problems again^^
Katzenminze 07-05-2007, 05:50 PM hey, it's me again!
im trying to complete this tutorial:
http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials/toaster/toaster_01.asp
I followed it along until I the step where he extrudes the toast-slots inward! here I get some problems!
The edges dont stay sharp enough when subsurfed! I know that with shift+E + mousdrag I can set the edge weighting for the modifier but this wont work properly either :(
can anyone help me out with that?
I'll attach 2 images showing my problem!
thx in advantage!

That's the way subD works
You need to chamfer the corner (like in http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials/toaster/toaster_04.asp 3rd picture)like you did with the outer corners. I don't know how to do this particulary in Blender, but this is a common method in every polybased 3d app.

Actually you already inserted a new edge(or whatever it is called in Blender), so just repeat that step.

I used the Knife tool ( i guess its the same as in other apps)
iyou select a face and cut it
but if I do that on my 2 faces for the slots i get ugly ugly smoothign cause blender doenst support ngons!

hey, i kinda figured it out! I just added some edgeloops around the holes (like you can see in the mage attached!) what do you think? is it as good as the solution shown in the tut?
a little of shift+E wouldnt hurt on the holes :p

hi there you go with my wireframe version (is there a better way of including wires? maybe aplying them ontop of the render? because seleting and using the secene render is kinda.. "self made" loos not really good i think^^
and yes I think I'll texture it thought about giving it a shine surface and add toasts and stuff but at the moment Im trying to learn to model (the mistake I made earlier was trying to learn all at once but I guess it's a better idea to learn modeling first then learn to texture, light, render, animate, and finally how to builöd compositions
that way I can keep focused on one task^^
aha, yes there's still a little bit of room for improoving :) (aka. try shift+e on some of the edges :p)
