I dont personaly use a dell laptop. Or even a window computer. but what is it you are looking to find out? if you want to know if C4D is stable, it is some people have gone three years with out a crash. Will Cinema it run on slow systems yes it will. I am running V8 on a 500 mhz G3 imac. but the real quesion is...
what do you really want to know?

I am at home right now! Using cinema on a sony vaio! 1500XP Athlon 8 Mb graphics! Runs fine although i don't have an OpenGL card! This would be the only thing to miss with sonys!
One idea from me to you! See "see" the display first! you won't work to long with a bad screen!

J III,
Thanks for the response. I'm basically a newbie who has dabbled in 3D, but now has the inkling to push it further. I have C4D XL 7, and its what i plan on working with for both cost/features..
I was looking for how 4D responds to heavy usage on Laptops. I am about to recieve a Dell M50, so I was wondering if anyone had an experience with 4D w/ the M50 for an extended period of time -- or any laptop I guess. The gist of my work would be scenic design and some architectural visualization.
On a side note, and excuse my newbieness but does 4D have any ISV certifications and or special drivers??
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to contributing to the group as I develop my skills.

Hi,
I have been using it's predecessor, the m40, for 15 months now. I'm having troubles with my harddisk, but this is probably due to the extensive use (read abuse) - it's after all a machine meant for presentations, and it isn't always handled with care.
The M50 is about the best you will find on the market if you value hardware specs. Fujitsu-Siemens has equal products, but they are a lot more expensive. The Sonu Vaio range is fantastic, but the graphic cards aren't that impressive (don't want to bash any Vaio-users, just comparing tech specs). B.T.W.: I recently found out that the M40 has fluid-based chip cooling. Ain't that something ;-)
I would immediately trade my M40 for the M50. If I could only get rid of this windows situation...
One advice: if you plan to use it "on the road", make sure to include a second battery. And don't try to commute with it: it comes with a great bag, but it rips your shoulder off your body if you try to carry it around - in other words: it's heavy.
To my knowledge, you don't need any special drivers to run C4D.
Cheers,
BaRa

Hi!
I have been using C4D on my 1.5 years old HP Omnibook XE3 for a while now with no problems. I maxed the RAM to 512MB early on. Of course the 1024x768 screen is a bit cramped and it has a 850MHz P3-M processor which is not all that fast, not to mention the S3 graphics card which is about 10x slower using OpenGL than software mode. :)
Editing very heavy scenes is not much fun, but anything below 100.000 polygons is quite workable. I haven't used PyroCluster or Dynamics on it, I currently have R8.1+ARM+Mocca (haven't yet dared to load the full Mime tutorial either).
C4D is rock solid on it. I think I've had it crash once for the whole time I've used it, and I've grown a bit too lazy about saving my work (which will surely bite me one day). I keep my laptop running all the time and practically never close C4D and sometimes work on a scene for a week before I remember to save it. I'm running Win XP, by the way.
Hope this helps..
