View Full Version : Applying Physique to a Biped...???

I have been reading (still I'm) plenty from the CS help file, and managed to finally make my first walking animation. I have the skin ready, so I thought at this point the next step would be to apply the Physique modifier on the skin, then add the Biped into Physique (linking this way the skin to the biped).
However I just came across a page in the CS help file that names the steps to apply Physique:

"After you have created a skin and a skeleton, and fitted the skeleton to the skin, you apply the Physique modifier to the skin. The process entails these steps:

> Selecting the mesh

> Turning on Figure Mode (if a biped is used)

> Adding the Physique modifier to the stack

> Attaching the Physique skin to the skeleton

> Initializing Physique "

The main problem I have is that the only way I seem to have access to "Turning on Figure Mode" is when the Biped is selected (its pelvis), I don't when the mesh is.
Also, I hope fitting the skeleton to the skin only means to place the skeleton inside the skin and nothing more, otherwise I am missing something :(

Any help will be immensely appreciated,

Howdy !

You've got the "fitting the skeleton to the skin" right; as for turning on Figure Mode before applying physique, it's fun i did not know that reference was mentioning that.

You can turn on Figure Mode, selecting the Bip.., as long as you have not turned it off, it shall be "on" - so turning on Figure Mode, then selecting your mash, and applying Physique is not a problem, you don't have to keep an element from the Biped selected at all times for your Figure Mode to be on or off (it's a button anyhow  )

Figure Mode being the way to edit your Biped config, and actually fit it into the skin, it also stands for the initial pose of your character, so my guess here is that it's recommanded to turn it on when applying Physique to ensure that your Biped is in it's default/initial pose when being linked to the mesh.

Now i might be wrong (there might be a more technical reason), but i think that it's not like you "have to". Anyway, you can always enter Figure Mode at any time.

hope this helps

He's right. If you turn on figure mode, it stays on until you turn it off.
