UH.... Don't know..... this is as much as I could put together from the 4 files I'm using now,The floor proved too heavy to do in the same file as the rest since it took five layers to do and I don't want to merge them yet... one of those layers was for dust and weathered effect, tell me if it works for you....... also I don't think I like the car color blue now....
All suggerted changes for the figures will be added for the next one. I'm speeding with the BG to find some time for the pedestrians, that's the part that still worries me most....
Thanks for visiting and have a lot of fun!!

Hey, it's looking nice! The subtle texture on the bricks on the ground really helps make them look like bricks... absolutely perfect bricks, but bricks nonetheless! :) Now you just need to take it to the next level. In real life, would every single edge of every brick be perfectly straight and perfectly parallel with all of the otehrs? Looks out on any street or sidewalk and you'dd find all sorts of imperfections: grime, grit, chips and cracks, a mark where someone scuffed tehir shoe, a stain from where someone left some gum, water stains from the last time it rained, candy wrappers and crumpled buss schedules, cigarette butts, and the various assorted weathering weight of years of use. I'm not saying you have to make it look run-down and cruddy - this is obviously a nice part of town - but even the nicest parts aren't perfect. You're getting there on the curb and on the stone base for the bus-stop seat, now just put that same attention into the rest, especially the ground... (or not, if you don't have time!)
Good luck!

It's looking fantastic. Amazing work. I personally don't mind the colour of the car either - the blue blends in nicely and that means it doesn't dominate the pic too much
Hey Gabriel, the BG looks really great !! I like a lot the buildings, cool mate!! and the billboard advert is a great touch!! :D The aluminum texture for the bus stop is awesome! Again, great work my friend Cheers

More stuff... mmm... let me see... the floor is grungier but no gabage yet, worked a bit the light on the big building, made the tree and bushes, the map, and I'm half done with the car...... hope you like it... I can chage it to gold or maybe white, but I knew you'd love it green :D :D :D

Hola Gabriel  Thats a nice BG my friend! Great work! I love all the little details here and there by the floor, the windows shapes, the add, the map its all selling the idea of a good city, and match the style as well, I think haha:D.....I know you are still working in the details and props witch some times takes more mental and hand time that we thought hehe! So I am sure this will end up as pretty as I think its already ! almust there hehe, :arteest:

Hello, again =)
It looks verry good!
But something's been bothering me ever from the beginning and now I know what =)
The girl looks like she has "angry eyes". And I figured that's because a lock of hair is atached to here eyebrow. It would lighten her face very much if you would remove it.
It's good though, when you reach the stage when the picture could pass off as finished!
Good job =)
Hey Gabriel! You are killing me with your style of rendering this piece! I LOVE IT! You did a GREAT job with the car I must say. I am really loving this Gabriel, and as I always say, just keep doing what you do!

Hey man I really love this piece. In my head I can really get a feel for both characters, who they are, what they are like, etc., just from looking at the piece. It's really great. I think the style is excellent and you did a great job creating actual characters, not just figures. Much respect. I'm learning from you.

10-23-2007, 08:39 PM
wow, this keeps looking better and better! I love your close-ups, the small details are the best.... if you run short of time I would just finish the bench and add some more dirt, maybe produced by the breaking bench, peasants would be good, but not so important IMO, I could buy it already as it is now, hehe!
good luck in the final days!

Greetings Gabriel,
I should say great, clean, fun but somehow it does not sound the same. I will refrain again from attempts at humor on what the Department of Public Works report on crushed public benches and instead admire the view. One very small humble observation, the upper edge of the war ax looks to be almost congruent with the edge of the sign on the building.

So far so good man! I like how this is turning out..Everything looks perfect ,however for the overall atmosphere, dont you think if you would make the sky more sky bluer, it can help your characters and foreground pops out more?..Just my final 2 cents:). ..Good luck!

I'M STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN.....
Well not really, but I wanted to show you the designs for billy's Axe that I'm adding just now.
I also included the doomed belt buckle doodle that I added to the image but will not be seen in all his glory because in the new pose that area is obscured almost completely.... too bad......
tonight I hope to post the 99% final image and get some corrections from you so by friday I can send the big one and be able to finish MegamanZero2 at last!! Who am I kidding... I'm stuck half way throgh it.....

So I sayd I would, and mostly I did, this is my first try at a final image... oooh it feels so good!! I'll try some new things in the coming days. As I said, I'll not upload the big one until saturday so there's a little time to try the bystanders that I already have sketched...
Funny, I just noticed a patch of fur is still half done, and I still have to work in that right eye of billy... don't like it much....
Sovica poited that Rita has sort of "Angry eyes". Well, remember a long long time ago I said she would not be definitive until the end, the final features and the hair variations are still to come. also I hope you like the shoes, they gaveme some big lot of trouble to do....
let me know...
Oh! the garbage!! yeah... letme see that too....

Hey Gabriel, that looks awesome my friend !! I love the nice atmosphere on the scene, and the new axe is really cool!! great . I thought the ax looked OK before but the new improved one is much better. And the slight adjustment in the spacing with the sign above is an improvement. My fine art background skews my perspective toward suggesting a touch more grim and maybe a touch more litter. :)

Hey Gabriel it's looking amazing my friend! i love all the changes you did, the axe is much more interesting now... The blurry buildings feel like they either need to get blurrier, or be crisp as they were in the beginning, now they look a bit soft to me, but that's just my opinion... Keep it up amigo, can't wait for the grand finale!
I agree with Jeff on the buildings Gabriel. The previous crisp attribute was not hindering th efeel of depth because you have a lot of light hitting them so they already felt far in the background. Can't wait to see that final!:bounce:

Not really final, but what the heck....
Once I finish the back hair I'll upload this one to test FTP speed, then later at midnight (or tomorrow if upload is not slow) I will send the good one.. I understand there's no problem sending a revised version of the final one.....
Rita's hair just doesn't look right red, I tested, I'll show you tomorrow, purple hair looks amazing on her (that always happens) but I'm not crazy, so.... lets see later....

Hey, Gabriel, I really like the humans that you've added in the background. Having them there adds life to the scene, and their poses and expressions really add to the feeling that something is Strange. I don't care as much for the non-human ones: It's harder to make out what they are - at first I though the giraffe was a palm tree, and it's on a funny tangent with bart of the roof of the bus-stop - but alos, having more animals in the scene makes your main chracters behavior and existence not all that strange.
Just my thoughts... good luckand great work either way!

HI Gabriel!!!Woowww great, great work man!!Kind a sad , couldn't be in here with you guys more.
Agree with Mike on the fact, those giraffes and so makes your principal scene a bit less strange somehow.
One though though is that maybe bringing some more dirt and scratches on the busstop and the card, etc, etc could maybe make it look even more realistic as it already does.Seems so clean to me right now.
The people you brought in are really great indeed and love the expressions you gave them!
Anyway one more time huge work man!Love it!

I'm gonna use this extra time to show you details and stuff, this is the latest work on her face now, I uploaded the final already but still, anything goes and you're free to comment for what will be the final-final I'll submit next week.
for now I'm not working anything of it... I really want to gain a fresh look on it before the closing time and try to see it as anyone else would.
I'll start work on another of these 'cute girl' pin-up esque pics soon, (a groovy red head hippie) but I have to say sweet Rita will always be that special one.... I like her, and she's the result of at least two years of me drawing all kinds of girls in any spare time and not really liking them that much... It pays off, my good friends, it always pays off sometime :D
Hey Gabriel, Rita is a blast.... really sweet, great painting work on she
sweet details man!
Love it

Looks nice... I was playing with layers now that is all done... and liked this image, first, you get to see well the garbage that will be there to just not be noticed later :D . Second, you can see the work on the shadow layer, is messy but good nuff' to do it's chore, it lands all elements in place just good. And last, because it reads well and looks pretty cool to me, hope you enjoy!!
this was the loooongest week for me, finally getting rid of the insomnia (again) and having some good old, rushed, no-brainer, commissioned work to do...(again). Home...
You will see the day after tomorrow the official final-final-final one, reglamentary Back-up story included, I'm working on that just now....
Thanx a lot again to everyone, I have lots of fun watching all those great finished ones as they come ;D

Thanks everyone! Oh my!... so glad to see the regulars and newcomers too! this is the end of all things and I'm pretty much done. Tonight I'll post the whole thing as the100% and call it a challenge... .................................................. so losng ago good ol' Chris beaver posted here for the firs time, I feel like it was 6 months or so... and heck, I didn't know it would be this hard, the pic has more detail and care than what I planned or expected to have time to add, and that is all thanks to you that kept pushing ahead and posting such great pieces along all the time...
This round goes for you and for all strange minded challengers that gathered this time and would never have any otherwise...
Cheers, boys and girls... good times!!!

Outdoor cafe 9:00 A.M.
Guy 1:Ahhh.... what a crazy morning, still so much to do, but is good to take a break and see the sights.
Guy 2:Yeah....hey, cover up for me back at the office, Say I was sick and had to go home....
G1:You wish...
G2:Ah, come on!
G1:Shhh!! Hey, lucky day, here she comes again.....
G2:Who?
G1:The girl I told you about, right there across the street at the bus stop!
G2:Oh man!..
G1:Yeeeeah.... What a girl uh?, this is like the fourth time I have seen her from here at this time, I went there and tried to pick up a conversation with her the other day but she wouldn't even look at me...
G2:Ha ha ha, what a looser!
G1:Wa wa wa... so what? it was just a first try, You know these fancy girls, playing hard to get and all, just give me another week...
G2:For her to even look at you?
G1:Oh, shut up!
G2:Ooooh, you told me to shut up... I guess I should obey and do it th.....
G1:HEY! Look at that!!
G2:What now?
G1:Isn't that Billy?? !!
G2:Billy who?
G1:Billy Skullstomper! From high school...
G2:Mmmmm... Hey yes, that's him!!
G1:He just kept growing, didn't he? I almost didn't recognize him...
G2:And it seems he's a warrior now! Wasn't he more into the video game programming thing?
G1:What?! you didn't know?
G2:Duh?
G1:Jeeeez...... Well it comes out that his dad is the owner and president of "Skullstomper Interest Conflict Solutions".
G2:No waaaay!
G1:Yep, Isn't that curious?
G2:I thought he was just another guy named Skullstomper...
G1:Me too, who'd know!... Well, so Bill happens to be his youngest son, and he wants him to run the business some day, so he took him out the Tech and gave him a job in his company...
G2:Oh, too bad! he was so fast at typing!
G1:I know!! So his dad made him start from the bottom and now he's a trooper in the Warfare Fields case. That's a big one!
G2:I heard if they win that land they'll make a Six Flags there!
G1:Nope, the SICS was hired by a clamshell packaging company, they want to build a huge factory there.
G2:Pfffft.... I hate those things...
G1:It is not so bad, If the "Dwarf Horde For a Price" wins, then it will be a sewage water treatment plant, and the dwarves get an artificial swamp-side spa area as part of the deal...
G2:Ugh...
G1:Told you...
..........
G1:Looks like Bill's waiting for the bus too...
G2:Yes.... Oh! you don't think he's gonna try to make his move on the girl, do you?
G1:No.... he's a big geek... he won't...
G2:But he's sitting next to her!
G1:What!! I saw her first!! !! that big .......
(Loud crushing metal noise)
G2:Waaahh Hahahahaha!! !! ha ha .. (shouting) Those benches can only take one ton at a time you dummy!!.....
G1:Hahaha! way to go Bill, was that your move?? !!
Both:hahahaha!
G2:Uh, wait a minute , it worked!
G1:What?! The girl's smiling at him!!
G2:check that out!!... was that a smooth move or what.......
G1:he didn't even mean that, the big lucky goof.......
G2:And yet she fell for it ...
G1:Oh C'mon!... me... I.. I was...........she wouldn't even look at m... Aww... ... ... ..wh.. what's wrong with girls man?
G2:Dunno......................... maybe it is that stupid goatee of yours......
G1:BILLY HAS A GOATEE TOO!! !!
G2:Uh... yes..... then it is just you....
G1:Oh, shut up.
This is it Fellas... I'm done, let me thank once again everyone for taking the time to look at all my 30 steps on this challenge, not many I guess...I don't really know if I did that well, but I tried to be as illustrative as possible of how this all developed in my head, if anyone has comments it is still time for it, BTW, I feel all of sudden that the space left by the camel thing, (that I intended to be a lizard, just not green :D ), is a bit empty now... I miss him... so I might be adding that puzzled cop that Axel suggested instead, just might... what you think? wouldn't it be cool if he looked like Leslie Nielsen? Oh, here I go again.... I just don't wanna finish it... it is like an obsession now.... I better stop here and see what happens in the coming six days...
Right, this was the technical part of the final image post, the emotional one will be the next..... it's really late now...
Loved the challenge, hope you all did too!
Best regards.

Well Well Well the illustration was already really good ,but with the text it's "Monstruosly" GOOOOOOOD ! Thanks a lot for the fun.
Hey Gabriel, what awesome image my friend! I love the whole concept and the amazing story !! hahahaha really cool!! Your drawing and painting skills are superb!! The all image and characters are really fluid, all the action captured in a great instant. The Billy´s fur is an impresive work! and Rita is so hot and sexy :D The atmosphere on the composition is great and incredible well balanced with the range colour of the characters. The painting details are awesome, from the garbage on the floor (the shadow for cigarrete is a simply detail :D ) to the man´s reflection in his car... woooow amazing my friend!. The expression of Billy with that eyes is simply cool!
It was an incredible experience (and a learning experience) to see the development of your concept from your great sketches to this awesome painting and great story for it ( and it was fun to share the pressure of the "first" dead line :D ) Congratulations Gabriel for this superb and awesome art work !! You rock man!! :buttrock: Best of luck!! ...... y ahora si es hora de tupirle duro a unas chelas bien muertas y unos buenos tequilas pa que pasen bien! :D Salú compa!

Hey you've done it. Fantastic finish. This image is superb and also a lot of fun, just like this thread has been a lot of fun. There's a lot I love about your image. Billy's hair is amazing and little details like the clouds in the sky might be subtle but they are done beautifully. In fact there is so much to see and admire in this illustration that it really rewards a good inspection. Congratulations!

Well my friend you made it and a very hearty congratulations on doing so. I have watched you take this every step of the way and your commitment has been a true inspiration - so I will also thank you for the boundless enthusiasm that you have shown for my own entry.
You have met every aspect of this challenge, I figure you have learned from it a very great deal and I sincerely hope that it pays off come the announcement of winners. One thing I know for certain is that Rita (and those legs to die for!!) will become a legend in her own right, admired from near and far just as she is in the story.
The very, very best of luck

I couldn't help to send another one with the very last changes... an overlayed yellow light on the left side that you won't notice much, a couple more reflections and sharpened the detail on Billy's right leg which blended too much with the background.
I'm a bit sad... I don't know what happens next, but I'll surely miss this whole Challenge days, I guess the forum is archived and you don't post anymore, so I'd like to Give my compliments now to all the great people that met here to share the sweet filling of their weird dreams...ah, Come on, please follow me to the thread now!..... ;)

Congratulations my friend! you've completed this piece as expected from you: With incredibly delicious soft brush-work, a smooth and soothing lighting, a dynamic composition, and a sense of humor of course...
I just want to say that it was great to have your support and help all along. Honestly, I observed your portfolio images carefully at the beginning of the challenge, becuase they have a unique quality that I was after learning. You can draw, period. So it was a pleasure in itself to see all the sketches for this piece; I think you've put the right amount of time in them to get the best expressions needed. And paint, ahh, love your colors, textures and all the little details you've added, they really make this environment some place that is being lived in. And your background is completed deliciously with the sky you've worked on the last days. You wanted green, and you got green, you disproved us skeptics, so this palette is definitely something different than usual...
It was a great learning experience to watch you work, and see how you evolve a painting master... I can only hope for more...
Best of luck to you with the voting amigo, and hope to see you sooner than I expect...

Juan Pablo: I'm glad it helped, If you need anything just ask! In the end the only way to really know the full photoshop might is to share among the users, No guide book gets even close to that ;)

Awsome work..!!
one crit:
the reflection of that guy who is opening the car's door is not correct. F.E, it's impossible from this angle to see both his eyes. you should see more of the hair and the back of his head.

Thanks Ido! you are completely right!! I missed that one. With Rita's reflection I did modify the position of her head, but I completely forgot when I did the guy .
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time! I really apreciate it!
