a project for university.

i'm having some serious renders with this badboy. this image was rendered at 800x480 and took 20 MINUTES!

heres the stats..

670,000 polys (oh god)
22 lights (standard)
volumtric lighting effect with low density, and noise. (which u can only see if the camera is level with the floor!?!?!)

the main problem is with the tanks, they seem to be needing a lot of render time and the amount of lights seems to affect it even more.

suggestions welcome. (and i know the tank camo repeats itself....)

I would try to add some variation to the floor texture, make it look less perfect. Also, I don't know, but is there a possibility that one of the tanks could be backed in, to make it look less like a whole lot of clones? Maybe with the further tanks, you could simplify the meshes to lower the whole scene poly count, if you wouldn't notice the extra detail.

cool, i got a reply!!

The floor texture has been a pain, and if i get time, i'll try and do something.

The tanks are supposed to be all in the exact same ppostion, becuase the room is supposed to be a automated theme park simulation "thing". Thats what the breif is for this uni project.

The camera is going to be flying through the room, so all the tank meshes need to be lookin pretty good, however, i'm drastically optimising the mesh at the moment, like getting rid of all unessary polygons, and hoping the texture will make it look ok.

ok, just incase anyone was worrying about me, i'm ok!

i've reduced it down to around 230,000 polys, and u cant really notice a diffrence.

Some advice on the lighting would be helpful, COS I SUCK!!!!!:airguitar
