Latest Update: Modeling: Playing with proportions

A little girl takes her pet monster for a walk.
I'm new to CG Society, so high everyone! This is just an idea I had while brainstorming. I'd like to hear what you think!

The girl and her monster practise some obedience training.
I'm trying to think of strange tricks and behaviours for him...

He can't do every trick!

I'm getting a better idea of what the girl will look like - still not sure how exaggerated the size of her head will be in relation to her body.

A very rough model of the monster. I need to do more work on the feet, and I am yet to add eye sockets/lids, waiting till I'm ready to break the symmetry on his head.

excellent concept. The board seems simple and funny. And the main start on your monster modeling is really good.

This is really funny!
I really like the monster thing! Also, you have a great start on things!
You seem to have things under control, so keep going and good luck!
cute monster, I want it as a pet

Wow, thanks for your kind comments and encouragement! I'm taking a break from the monster, and working on the girl now. I'm thinking she'll be called Melanie. I'm not sure about what I've done though, whether I should be aiming for more stylised features.

Great styling on this one BJ, love how the monster and girl kinda look similar

Great work so far. The head for the girl is comming along nicely. It's simple and perfect for this cartoonish aproach.
just ~sooo~ love the way this ones looking, keep going, its a great entry! :D
one "critique" would be that you should try to make the monster look a bit more like on the concepts, well the face i mean :D i especially love the "shake hands" one :)

HAHAH this one should be quite fun!!!
Have you thought about something like.... the little girl is walking are calling for 'fido' and the monster is moving around in the bushes all scary like. She gets scarred and a dog jumps out... but all mean and scary. She can scream FIDO!! and then the monster jumps out and scares the dog.
sorry, but that just kinda popped into my head when I saw the great little sketches and I had to share. At any rate, Im dying to see where this goes!

A list of the things I'm not happy with: the hands
07-15-2007, 01:10 PM
Well the ears are maybe a little to far but they seem good otherwise.
For the hands and the mouth I thin it will depend of the expression/pose you'll give to your character. I think that it will be ok with the animation.
I find the neck to long even it's like in your concept. But that's just a question of taste. Could be hard to animate but if you succeed it will be funny.

This is going to be so funny! I love the quirky creature design and I think that should really help to sell the humor in this one. Keep it up!! :)

Excellent concept. Simple and funny

Thanks for your critique Vincent - I've shortened the neck and it does look better. I've also played with her body proportions.

bjzaba, for the mouth, you can try to add some lips to them a little, not too much though, that might help in your visualization, also with the hands, try modelling them with a slight bend, they might be slightly harder to rig, but not by very much, and they will deform waaay better. You might want to try that with all the joints, makes the deformations a lot easier, and you shouldn't have to use driven shape keys or blends to make the deformation correct when you begin to animate.
Looking good btw, keep it up, can't wait till you start to animate.
