I had an older thread here, but I can't find it anymore, so I'll just start this one.

I've been working on understanding the edges/creases/proportions of human hands and had been working on a set. Several folks had many good points and tips and this is my latest set with most of the corrections on it. Ultimately, I'm going to make a more slender, female version that I can attach to my other character model wip. Bear in mind, that minute details will be acheived with bump mapping as opposed to being modeled.

So this is a set of male hands. I used my own hands as a reference. Please critique and provide any comments on what would make them look more believable, if anything. thanks!

HI there,
Think you've done a great job. What I can recommend though is to place some muscles in the v shaped area between the thumb and pointing finger as the position of the thumb indicates a contraction of the muscles.
In the other case relaxe the thumb and drape the skin with a slight bulge hanging the thumb to paint down.

This is looking absolutely wonderful, gotta love those knuckle creases. As for suggestions, I think the wrist bones could be a little more pronouced (esp for your future female version). And, add some tendon detail in the small bit of forearm you have there.

And how come the nails don't looked chewed?:D

Great stuff, man.

[edit] Oh, and just noticed that the thumb could use a nice tendon connecting it to the hand, instead the bulky skin now. But this is really a great model.

Thanks for all the great feedback folks, its been very helpful. I did a bunch of little tweaks to these hands including added some skin folds between the thumb and index finger, bent each of the fingers a bit and added some tendon action just below the wrist as well as a few other minor things.

I think I'm gonna call the modeling done on these ones and start a new set of hands (for female). Let me know what you think, comments and critiques are of course most welcome

I think you're doin' a great job! :applause:

The thing I noticed was that I think the knukles should be bigger....come up higher from the surface of the hand. I know this varies from person to person....but I just know mine are much bigger. I think it would look better and help balance out the hand, IMO.
