View Full Version : Looking for direction

Greetings, all. I just got a graphics tablet yesterday (chuckles). I've acclimated to it rather quickly and can't seem to stop doodling. However, I've never really tried doing any digital painting before, other than very roughly coloring in some sketches I'd scanned. I'm fairly well familiar with photoshop, though.

Without giving you my life story, I'll just say that I've always had that artistic nack, and despite taking a lot of art classes throughout school and college, I never really "got into it" other than doing my assignments (and sometimes not even doing that much :P). I've recently got the itch though, thus the graphics tablet and W.I.P. posted below...

So... I've sketched out this portrait of a friend from a photo reference and colored it in with some shadow and highlight tones and started the blending process. I'm just not sure if I'm happy with the blending results (and it's taken me a couple hours to get to this point... I wonder if I'm not doing something wrong :P), but even if I were, I'm not certain how to proceed beyond this point, adding detail and making my friend look more like herself.

If anyone could offer any advice, direction, or critique, I would greatly appreciate it.
