I have been working on a rig for this 4 legged beast and I just made up a few quick little animations. I have never animated a 4 legged creature before so this is a good exercise for me. Feedback is welcome. Thanks.

Good job

Critique : the wlk isn't enough agressiv for the beast it is!

I agree its pretty tame, for a creature like this I think motions would be bigger and more agressive. another thing that bothers me is the feet, you didn't bone the claws in the paws, so they look very stiff and fake. basically your adding likfe to the creature but not its feet

I agree with the previous posts in that it's too tame a walk for such a beast, a more powerful lope might look better wih that sort of build. Also, you have both the front and back feet of the same side off the ground at the same time, this makes it look like he should fall over when he's walking. Try offsetting the feet from each other a little more and maybe add a bit more weight shift.

hi:)
i'm currently animating an elephant, so i guess i could share some of my thoughts:)

your beast's walk's weight shift does not show how heavy the beast is.
probably because of the sequence of how it's legs move.i notice that the left-front leg and the left-hind leg is moving almost at the same time, which is a little weird, even if it's supposed to move this way, its body would tilt to the other side in order to balance off it's heavy weight.
if i were you, i would have the hind leg move first, and make it like the hind leg is pushing the whole body.

as for the jumping part, before the jumping, you could key some frames where the beast anticipates really heavily before the first hop, then pauses for a short while after it.

it's really fun having a heavy-beast to animate. :)
enjoy :) i'll post my elephant's playblast soon. hope you give some crits then :)

"walk" try to shift the weight of his shoulders and chest more,
or make the front arms closer to each other.

In the "move" animation the tale is too stiff, try to delay it and make a wip like movement.

your quadriped has a lot of animation possibilities, and you've done a pretty good job so far. there's just a few details that could be improved on to make the animation seem more fluid and convincing.

on the walk... maybe just add a few more frames and cycle the legs the way you have them. when my dog (irl) walks around, sometimes his legs will move both on the same side at the same time, and other times alternating the front and back legs. the front legs usually have a longer stride than the back legs which would leave you with (for example) 2 looped cycles of the front legs while the back legs go through their cycle 3 times (but covering the same amount of ground) during the same number of frames.
it is hard to tell if that is what you were going for in the walk animation since its only 2 cycles long (?)
i love the hip swing you gave it though :) maybe add a little more of that in the shoulders, but not as much swing as the back legs, and that might solve the illusion of weight problem.

on the move... the creature needs to lead more with his chest on the movements and the hips should follow through trailing the chest motion. when he rears back for the jump, the weight should be shifting (tilting the body) towards his back legs and not just moving backwards.

i think you're off to a great start, just keep at it

The walk look not so natural......the font leg and the back leg timing got so problem....anyway.....good job

For a first time, i think it's a good job.
But in the "move" animation you a can spent a little time just before the jump for the anticipation.

So you can go this adress:

There's a chapter for the for legged movements
