Hello there :).
Just a quick introduction. I've been following CGTalk for a little bit now, but never really participated, so here's my first step!

I'm an Animation student in Switzerland. We do mostly 2d hand drawn here, though my true love is, and will stay, 3d computer generated.

My idea consists in giving a common behaviour, to a character that would be least expected in acting this way.

This ended up in having the classical scaled sea monster that returns to the water with his daily catch of a young beautifull woman.
But the water is pretty cold.

After having roared his way to the coast, the hideous monster tests the water with his toe... shivers, then proceeds to enter the sea as any of us would enter a cold swimming pool. (releasing yelps and "ouhouh ahh!"s)

Just started experimenting a bit with ZBrush.
Trying to get a general feel to how the monster will look, before making a base mesh in Maya.

It'd be great if you could continue the design of those head ridges through the rest of his body, but in a very subtle manner.

I like your concept. It's a nice blend of classic ol' timey horror and some comedy with the cold water bit.

Plus, you'll get to create some cool characters!

I like your idea as well. The initial model looks a litlle different than the sketches.. The model the nose seems much more prevailent, are you thinking of changing the design?

Yeah I'm still thinking in changing the design. I'm learning a lot while doing this competition (zbrush, face rigging, humano´d rigging etc..), so everytime I finish something, I feel like starting over with the new knowledge aquired ^^.

The doodles themselves were mostly to get an idea wether I wanted something rather comic or serious. I'm thinking in doing a whole new character design based on what I've done so far, but also based on documents (fish, classical movie monsters and what not), and then making a final atmosphere illustration on photoshop, with the final monster holding the final woman while walking through the final background.

I know, not a very efficient workflow eh? ^^
I'm currently at my second rig, after having made a second base mesh, and having detailed in zbrush a 3rd time. Once I see how much movement I get out of it.... I'll be doing my final concepts in pencil.

@SantoAnderson: A good idea indeed :). I was thinking of adding fishy fins at certain areas too.
It's basically a fight between Sea monster, or Swamp monster. Wondering which one would be cuter going "ouh! Cold! ah! eep!"

Your idea is great! Please, do it! The first model is good, maybe a little bit "sea monster" (adding details such as palmed feet and so on).
