Would like to get some feedback on this finished scene. I've had no luck getting a descent picture under the file size limits so I'm posting a link. I'm really looking to improve my techniques so all feedback is appreciated, good and bad. Thanks!

Great image. Not quite photo-real, but I can't put my finger on any specific problems. :D

Thanks Steve! My intent is never to make photo-real renders. If they tend to vear in that direction, it is completely unintentional. I've reached a point where I'm pretty comfortable with my modeling techniques. I'm looking to improve other aspects of the medium and am looking for objective opinions. I really appreciate it. Nice Rendering, good use of textures.

below is what I think could make the image better

The thing that caught my eye was the repeating use of "noisy" ends of at the side planks, it looks to uniform, try to make some planks without the broken end..

The stones at the side of the little house need some work, stones almost never have all round corners, try to make som sharp edges....

There is something about the door which makes it appear very flat, and the ends doesn't line up, which is good but again I think you have gonna a little overboard..

The grass, well I haven't seen grass like this before, but I think with this type of grass (in clumps) needs to be a little longer...

the background seem a little less "worn", very "boxy" is the house in the bg and the landscape has a repeating texture

Try to add some nails which holds the little house together, maybe some sticking out and some rust stains around them.

at the opening (under the door) you might wanna make it look like the grass is gone (worn out) and the ground have a slightly different color. (its typically for places where people tends to walk or stand alot)

anyway this is just my opinion

An interesting composition...

My thoughts:
It's a bit too sterile looking. The lighting is too smooth across the wood, the grass too uniform in shape and layout, and the sky perspective dosen't 'feel' right... Like the clouds are running into the ground...

The trees also appear to be completely featureless (no texture or bumpmap).

Maybe tear up the ground a bit around the outhouse too - like it's actually been visited before (footsteps and dirt clods around the door).

Well, the eye is more sensitive to brightness/contrasts than colors - so anything you can do to 'break-up' the light a bit more on the overly smooth areas will greatly affect the final image. Looking forward to seeing your progress...

Thanks Neverman! You are right, the door is a single cube that I have extruded the edges to give the appearance of separate boards, unlike the sides of the building that are actually individual pieces of geometry. It would look alot better if the door was actually modeled like the sides, you're right. I guess I just got lazy there. Thanks again!!! -- dano

Are there any C4D users out there who can offer suggestions for the best way to add that atmospheric haze that usually is visible when looking at a horizon??? Thanks! -- dano
