texturing a head

Just use your image as a template and start painting in layers in Photoshop. Nice head model...except for the ears. They're a little low. Welcome to the forum.

the first tip I can give you is work in a larger resolution!
if you used the Unwrap plugin you should use resolution 2000*1000 if you use UVmapping you should double the resolution captured on the screen...

You could output the UV viewport from Modeler with "Export Encapsulated Postscript" (assuming you'll be texturing in Photoshop or something with an .eps import).

This has the advantage that you can determine the resolution when you load it into Photoshop, and it will import as lines on a transparent layer.

Using UV mapping on a subdiv surface will cause some distortion in the mapping, but usually not enough to worry about on a face. It's something to be aware of though...

Yeah, you do get some distortion with sub-ds, but you can fix it pretty much completely by simply editing your UV map, and pulling the points around until the distortion is eliminated ;)
