Well to be honest, it's nice to see another edition, but it's getting a bit expensive isn't it?
I'm not sure how much the previous editions were, but I'm under the impression that they were a bit cheaper.

I got all four previous editions, but I'm not going to get this one because of the price. I mean, $65 for the hardcover plus $30 shipping (!), that's just a bit too much.

thats what i say. But if you look on there page they have banners and ads saying that cgs members get free shipping anywhere on the globe for free. so for 29.95 there is finally no excuse to not upgrade your account which last for an entire year from your sign up date. plus CGS members now get free shipping from ballistic.
i thought the same thing when i went to check out and didn't buy it.

But I'm upgrading soon cause i'm really wanting to get several books myself. why shouldn't you upgrade if you're going to buy even one book?

Well I don't really want to pay to be a CGSociety member
So $30 for shipping or $30 for a membership and $0 for shipping, it's all the same to me.

We have not raised book prices for over 3 years. We are Australian based and most of our costs are in Australian dollars. Over the past 3 years the value of US dollar has dropped dramatically in value and continues to erode our margins.

We have reduced global shipping costs and streamlined the business as volumes have increased. Unfortunately the devalued US dollar has more than wiped out the benefits of every efficiency gain we have made. We held out as long as we could but had to make a small adjustment in price now.

Books are still the major revenue that supports all of the CGSociety. The society has grown enormously over the past 4 years – and so have the costs of running it. Book volumes are up but revenue per book is down due to the devaluation of the US dollar.

Tips for saving money:

CGSociety members get free shipping – the more books you buy the more you save.

Get a group of friends together and buy books in bulk for up to 20% saving on 5 or more books.

Get your company to buy the books for you – tell them it improves morale and workplace efficiency ;)

Looks great!

By the way, John Berkey wasn't a digital artist, was he?

Looks great! By the way, John Berkey wasn't a digital artist, was he?

John is alive and it was a great pleasure to actually talk to him personally. He is a traditional artist -- his son did buy him a computer a number of years ago and John continues to "walk past" it with great trepidation. He certainly never turns it on ;)

But -- John is an inspiration to digital artists. His pionering work with space and spaceship images has defined much of what we now take for granted in films and games. John's impact and vision are so far reaching that despite his aversion to computers it wasn't hard for the judges to unanimously choose him as this years Grand Master.

In my opinion, I think the books have a very reasonable price and is well put. I think of the price as a value to all those amazing artworks inside those books. I think that anyone who is a serious art collector would pay this amount of money and maybe even more. The effort all this artists put in the creation of all this artwork is something I think no one can pay. I have never seen books so beautiful, so well crafted and interesting as the Ballistic Publishing books. So yes, like I said, I am in total agreement with the price.

So I'd like to congratulate Ballistic Publishing for once again making such amazing books like Exposé and for choosing all those amazing artists and their works that really deserve to be in that book. Congratulations to all artists as well.

Cheers!

Well if one has the 4 previous editions already in a prominent location on the bookshelf, what's the point in NOT getting this one too. Face it, I'm an addict, but this is one addiction I'm damn proud of.

Congrats and many thanks too everyone involved !

I wish the limited edition wasn't bound in leather. We're in the 21st century, not the 19th.

There's no point in doing so, and it doesn't make the product any higher brow or higher tier than having it bound in another material.

In fact, to me it makes it a product I won't buy, unfortunately. :(

The price surprised me at first as well. But then I was quickly reminded how almost-worthless the US dollar has become and it all made sense. Besides ... where else can you get such a wonderful collection of AWESOME artworks, printed with the utmost quality for that price? I couldn't find another source :-)

Congratulations on another kick-ass edition of Expose!!

Congratulations to Ballistic & CGSociety on Expose5

Getting every year all that inspiration in one book contain all those artworks done by the best digital artists, that’s simply great.

“I just want to comment on the price issue. Well the book price is reasonable. I used to print all my CG Arch-works on an A3 & A4 -glossy or matte- paper in Kodak labs, printing on A4 costs about 1.60 $ per paper , so if I want to print 240 paper on the cheapest A4 paper, it will cost me a fortune .not forgetting the efforts of arranging ,color correction, and binding them in one book“ ;)

I like the leather-bound; it is just prestigious. It is not just another book in your library.

Thanks to all these efforts.

Best,

One thing I was a little annoyed with was that I received my email notifying me that my LE was reserved, yet I couldnt find any previews of what was in the book before I ordered. It wasnt until after the reservation lapsed that you guys published previews on the website. Once I saw them I ordered straight away.

Maybe include a link to the previews for those reserved with LE in the future?

Anyway...I cant wait to receive mine now :D

I received my Limited Ed. in the mail yesterday. A quick thumb-through reveals that the art selection in this issue is simply astounding. Some real nice pieces in there. Additionally there are a couple of prints that were included with my order that I will probably frame and hang on the wall this time.

Got 2 books in my living room. Amazing stuff.
I would love to ask for a cd with the book, but I know if the images were there, they would all be uploaded. How about a cd with the making of?
