View Full Version : Transforming without perspective distortion
This seems to be the simplest problem ever... but I can't seem to solve it.
I would like to transform a layer without any perspective-related deformation; for example, to make the top wider than the bottom but still keep all the vertical relations as they are. Like this:

Like I said, it's such a simple issue, but I can't get PS to do it for me. Help is greatly appreciated!

You forgot to add the example.
EDIT: I can now see it.
One solution, although not a perfect one, would be the warp tool. Foolish enough Adobe doesn't allow it to snap to guides and neither did they provide a shortcut to allign to 90 degrees angles.

Or,
ALT+drag side handles, then mask/vector mask to apropriate trapezoid shape

Why drag the handles, it only moves all 4 corner points in/outwards.
Why use a mask, knowing that this will remove important data from the image. It doesn't matter in his example, but imagine that he uses a photograph.
Maybe I understood you wrong, because I don't see how your method would work.

Had you carefully read my post, I mentioned
ALT+drag side handles
which will extend the image horizontally without changing perspective.

Well, my idea was based on the specific given example. If another real world situation was presented along with the limitations, the "must keep" and "can throw away" areas, a different approach would be followed accordingly.

You're right, the result of posting late at night. :D
