View Full Version : setup help for this box...
rich novak 03-22-2003, 04:35 AM hey all!
i see these renders of a box with red and blue walls, usually with objects inside made of "glass" to show off caustics and refraction and the like.
can anyone point me in the direction of how to set these scenes up? i've seen them in programs from maya to lightwave to studio max to bryce and blender.
thanks!

I think it's called the Cornell Box. The thing is kinda famous like the teapot in CG. Its purpose is to demonstrate radiosity or global illumination.
To recreate it, just crank up radiosty and/or caustics, in LW. Tweak until it looks nice.

you're right, the cornell box is what it's called. i read the parts about refraction and stuff but i can't get mine to look right. i thought i'd recreate the setting and see if it's me doing it wrong, or if it has to be in a particular setting to look that way (my money is on the first one...)
thanks!

i did but it wouldn't stay checked. i rebooted and it worked! that was pretty simple too. but it leaves me with another question:
the back wall is white in my example. it catches a sort of cloudy looking reflection from both of the colored walls. i don't have any way to post a pic, and since the war started i can't even e-mail an attachment, but it looks like a cloudy reflection, projected onto the walls. any idea what that's from? maybe it's normal...
thanks!
