Here's a little project that's kept my nights occupied for a couple of months.

While I've messed with a few short animations, this is my first real attempt at something with a beginning, middle and end - and it's all original (with some CC audio content).

Hopefully it crosses cultural and language barriers reasonably well.

Format : Mov (H.264)
Size : ~ 2.5Mb
Dimensions 320 x 240

As a journey in self-education, I'm considering it finished but I suspect I'll be revisiting it from time to time and may post a more polished version later in the year.

Comments and crits welcome of course.

Hmmm, no comments? Okay, well 77 people have looked so here's some more information (http://andy-dolphin.blogspot.com/2007/07/out-of-box_05.html).

That blog also features some of my early lip-sync tests from last year.

I liked it, you had some interesting dialogue, good voice actor, and an interesting match character to watch. I would submit this to the finished animation forums and see what responses you get

I was thinking the sam thing, this should probably go to the finished section?

The crowd reaction shots look a little unfinished, I would suggest putting more time in these.

Wow, thanks. I know the standard here is generally high and didn't want to be so presumptious as to put my first submission straight to finished without review. I'm genuinely flattered by your comments.

It's been a month since I finished it and I have to agree that the crowd needs a little finishing off. It was the last part I worked on and I was getting pretty worn out. I hope to revisit it all soon and polish up the crowd and a couple of other loose ends then I'll put it in finished.

Thanks again. Much appreciated.

Yes, I was going to mention that the crowd looks a little floaty at time, and a little in slow mo at other times...

I thought this was absolutely brilliant! If I can get to a point where I could produce something of that standard I'd be well happy. Well done!

To me this is very well done. The match character is an odd one to pick for a character but, I loved it and can't wait till i'm am to get to animating like this. Great work.

Thanks kindly.

As I mention in my blog article (http://andy-dolphin.blogspot.com/2007/07/out-of-box_05.html), the matchstick was almost accidental as my original intent before discovering CG software was to produce a simple, hand-drawn "matchstick-man" (stick-figure), flip-book animation. When I discovered Blender, one of the first things I did was make a "real" matchstick and mess around with simple moves and rotations. At that time I wrote some simple one-liners and it all built from there.
