Well, this took me entirely too long to finish. First all sorts of nonsense kept popping up, and then my hard drive imploded. I saved everything I really needed to save and finally had an excuse to get a better machine, but still. What a headache.
.
Photoshop 7.0…and a slight touch of Painter in the sky, but I painted over most of it back in Photoshop, so I'm not sure it counts… the program is still too foreign to me. I can’t handle anything polished in it yet.
.
The palette is one I have never attempted before, and her skin was particularly challenging. It is remarkable how much more complex dark skin is to paint than light skin. The treatment of highlights and shadows is completely different.

Early sketch stages of this image are featured in this month’s IFX cover article, “100 New Ways to Paint”, which I helped co-author. :)

Very nice .. hands are awesome ..

I wish you had made the belly area of her body a bit wider .. it would've given her more feminine look .. what do u think?

OblivionLV: Thank you!

umbrellasky: Thanks Maddy;I worked very hard on the sky :]

Artist-Lounge: Thanks for the suggestion... for this character, I made everything much longer than it should be to create a more elegant feel to the pose. That's why her stomach/hips are so narrow. :)

maxxxw:Thank you; glad you like it :)

eightgr: Thanks!

tomstools: thank you very much :D

CybrGfx: Thanks, always pleased when people appreciate the writing along with the image. :)

Ninetales: Thank you! :)

hasansgrafix: Thanks very much. :D I think you're right about her legs... I always have problems painting legs too large.

Hi Lauren!

Wow, it seems I missed two of your latest submissions :(

Well, I think this is my favourite piece of yours. Boththe colour choices and the composition seem to work together beautifully with the character design. What I think I love the most about the piece though, is the pose. It seems so incredibly dynamic! I love the way the character seems to be moving, barely finding the balance in such a complicated pose.

The clouds and the rock are also rendered beautifully. If I was to nitpick, maybe I would say that the tetxile could use a little bit more of definition. Then again, it doesn't really bother me at all.

It's always a pleasure to see more new stuff from you =)

Cheers from Warsaw!
