Hi all,

I'm in some trouble here and I hope someone will be able to help me!
Now, I have a fully rigged character saved in several versions in .mb files. I'm using Maya 4.5 btw.
For a reason I'm trying to find out, the latest versions of the saved files will just leave Maya calculating forever when opened. While earlier versions still work flawlessly, take just seconds to load. I haven't made any significant changes, at least none that could explain this strange behaviour. The file sizes have increased only by about 100kb... They are just around 2mb anyway, which I believe my 1gb of RAM should be able to handle... I'm really at a loss here, because several days of work are in these latest files!!

The time-slider seems to bet set to frame 1, so that can't really be the problem.

Please, if anyone has encountered this problem and knows what to do, I'd be very grateful to hear it! Any hints would be great!

Thanks,
Stefan

i have a problem that looks on your problem , when i open a file it loads the file in 8 seconds but he hangs for about 20 minuts, if i look at mij cpu-meter i see that my computer or cpu is buzy. so if i wait long enought he works.

i dont have a solution but maybe you could tryto load your file and then wait and wait and wait enz.

that really sucks. I hate it when stuff like that happens. I save so damm much now a days. Im modeling a leg to some mech right now and I have something like 45 versions cause sometimes there are errors when you save a file and it'll do what your saying. but id do what kass says. just wait for a long time until it opens. then you should export to mb or just save again or something. to me it sounds like maya just screwed up saving the file or something or you did something that screwed it up but its unlikely that you did something especially since you said you just did a few minor changes. I hope you can get your file back.

If it does eventually open, save it as a .ma file, so you can always go and edit the file to try to find a problem.

I had a problem with a model I had saved as a .mb file.

Was funny though, 9 times out of 10 it only loaded about 1/4 of the model. This is when I totally panicked, and opened and closed it over and over again, and all of a sudden it loaded it all.

I resaved and tried to open again, same thing again. Once I'd reopened it about 10 times again, it showed the complete model again, So I deleted the history and resaved. Then it worked. So I can only assume there was something in the history that was wonky.

I had this same problem once. but it was really weird. some of the faces were completely transparent and when i select the surface i know its all there. ya it makes sence it is with the history cause the parts that were actiong wiggy where the part that i was just working on. thats such a weird thing. nevery did it your way though(well kinda). whenever that happend i just kept on reopening until it worked.

Have you tried to import the "bad" file into a new one?
