View Full Version : swirling clouds via fluids?

Hi,

I need some suggestions. I am attempting to create a subtly swirling sky. The ideal look for it would be one of the maya fluids presets using the fractal generated skies, but with a vortex effect in the centre of the frame.
Obviously this doesnt work with a texture map, which that preset essentially is ... and I am unsure how to achieve equally nice looking clouds without using a fractal to generate the opacities.

I am a bit lost, any ideas?

Make the velocity grid dynamic on your textural cloud fluid then make the coordinateMethod "dynamic grid" and the coordinate speed 1. A vortex field (or painting velocities) can then be used to swirl the clouds. The texture may become too streaked out after a while because you are pushing uvw coordinates around, not density. However you do not require nearly the resolution you would need for a similar animation with only density and no texturing.

That works quite well, thank you very much. Will play with it!

I solved this issue by using the bake fluid shading command, it turns all texture information into density, remember to set your initial state then change density and velcity to dynamic grid should work as well.
