Well, these are some sketches of windmills, as
you see.
My concept for "Strange Behaviour" :
Windmills all over the world start every late summer
their migration to the south, like migratory birds do,
to unknown places and return when the first flowers begin
to bloom. When they fly they take a big piece of
ground because they're fixed to it. Its possible that
houses, humans or anything else is with them on
the piece of ground when they take off, if they're
near to the mill.
It will be a matte-painting with lots of clouds, a big
sunset and atmosphere .... well thats the plan :D ..
we'll see.
Enjoy :)

Thanks for the pushes, guys!
But the windmillconcept seem not to work as a behaviour. So i decided for this new one (a very rough sketch). I guess its clearer. And stranger.
enjoy :)

great vertigo feeling in your image! the expression in his face is also great...
the windmill migration was more spectacular for sure, but this one is funnier
wonderful sketches anyway, good luck with it!

Great change in concept I believe. Even though I loved your first sketches, I think this is a much stronger idea, and a funnier image. Good job with the "letting it go"
I'd say try to put the head in a little more perspective, like the rest of the image, it'd increase the quality of the dynamism in the image. And I think I wouldn't show the tops of the 2 buildings across the street (or at least one of them). Feels like everything should fly out of the frame - even his cape maybe - while he is the only one that is looking trapped in there.
I know this is a first sketch, still, it looks great. I also think that making the logo on his chest something custom, and keeping him as the classic superman image works perfect. It makes him familiar to everyone, and doesn't limit him to a particular superhero. I think him being the superman wouldn't work as nice, or maybe he is just a wannabe kid? I guess we'll see soon huh?
nice concept to invest in, good luck with the developement, keep'em coming!

Ok Guys sorry for switching the concept with every post, but i still dont know which I really like.:D

I've been watching you switch back and fourth from your first point, and I must say, I absolutely love the windmill concept. I think it's very original, especially because it's like-- an object and not a creature. it's very unique and cool, and I really like the idea.
I'll be keeping my eye here for longer to see where you decide to finally take it.
Good luck!

nice update! :) it has a classical painting look that looks great on it...
I like your pencil sketch with the scared men... I think they are a very good detail
However I was expecting that we could see more than one windmill closer, I mean, at first glance you don't realize it's a windmill migration, because you only can see a big one... maybe if you made one of the others windmills to be closer to the viewer also... I don't know, it's only my personal taste and it looks very good as it is now

yea, i didn't realize those are windmill at the start, thought was a scene view. perhaps the point of view can dropped at a resident on the land which the land move along the windmill. then the guy say" wow, it's moving season again." then maybe the lands and the windmills raise up up to the cloud, can see other willmills floating too. just a suggest, see how then. btw i love your idea, quite sorry if u let go...

As I see that u cant decide which concept should u develop further, here is my vote for the Mills. It could be so spectacular if u put some more of them in the background, and yet very strange. Hope to see more from u soon! good luck :)

Sorry for the late answer but i moved a month ago to Madrid for a Semester and had a lot other things to do :)
But now I got time to show how far i got in the last months. There´s still a lot to do, but i think its possible in 15 days.
The to-do´s are:
More Details in the middleground.
A tree on the left in the foreground with leaves around it on the ground to make the season more present.
A lot of Mills in the background flying towards the horizon.
...and as always more details overall.
Well and a lot of thanks for the pushes, guys!
Hope i can show updates soon.

coolkonrad, cabertevon, UldFerr,olive2d: thanks guys! I really appreciate that :scream:
elmasfeo: to bring that mama up in the sky was not that problem, but to point out that the mills are migrating to the south. To manifest that i choosed the time around noon when the sun is on its highest point in the south. In the next update there is also an weathercook on the roof of the house showing where north and south is. Anyway its not that important for the illustration, cause its already strange enough that mills are flying :D

This is looking really nice so far. The update on the family is good, and I love all of the dust below the flying mill. I don't quite get what the father is looking at. Is there another mill flying in front of him? Is he just shell-shocked? Why wouldn't he be craning around to look at the flying mill behind him (as his son clearly is.)
One other note is that everythign in the scene looks incredibly clean. The wagon, the clothes, the walls of the mill all seem to be in perfect condition, which is not what I'd expect from farmers and millers. It's not even lcear what the red mill walls are made out of - they're so smooth and clean that they don't quite read as wood.
Anyhow, plenty of time to add more mess and corrections, we have over a week left... Good luck, and nice work so far!

wow what a beautifull scene, the bottom right corner looks already finished
the colors are awesome, really beautifull and scary theme in once
I think it would really push the composition if you`d expand the canvas on the right a bit, showing more of the awesome landscape and getting the family more into the picture
good luck and well done so far

Walrus: Thank you very much for that critiques. I tried to get a bit more clearness in the pose of the man through opening his mouth to show that he´s impressed and stunned at the same time. So stunned that he doesn´t get that the mill behind him is setting up and that the boy tries to allude him to it. Difficult part .. i know , but the other poses i tried ( for ex. the man looking behind himself) did not satisfy me and seem to be overdone... maybe my fault... anyway now he´s looking ( just like the girl ) in the sky where are now a few more mills. I hope its now clearer that they´re all over the sky. But they are not finished, yet.
I also added more dirt and details on the surfaces and will do more in the next days. :)
Guterrez: As you can see i widend the format a bit as you advised me to. Thank you for that point ! I think its much better now.
Jeroentje: Sure you may ;) I will try that later. Thanks!

Spring time when the windmills take to the air! Intriguing facial expressions and gaze, that suggests that there must be another levitated windmill in front of them. I would like to ride on one (are there discounts tickets for folks on this blog?). Do you think the windmills just need to migrate? Or do the windmills know something we don’t? :)
The ambiguity is the metaphor of the drama! Well done!

The open mouth helps, but even moreso, the other flying windmills around the scene make it clear what he's looking at. It wasn't as clear when we only saw the one, although there was a bit more mystery to the picture when it was a solo windmill... Having 8 flying windmills might be a bit more than you need. But either way, dad is clearer now. Good luck with the rest!

Added more trees to the middleground and one to the foreground on the right to get a counterbalance to the one on the left.
I also will add lots of leaves to the ground around the horse. Then i want to add more detail to the sky cause its a to big nearly empty part in the ilustration- but it won't be very eyecatching.

It was a beautyful afternoon in fall.
The leaves got yellow and red in the past weeks and few of them were already fallen down. The sun coverd the land with warm light. The air was clear and fresh. Everything was just fine.
I was on the way back home from the miller with my children, when i realized the strangest behaviour i have ever seen: All over the sky were windmills hovering more then hundred meters above the land, as if they don't weight nothing. They set up without any warning, taking everything with them what was on the piece of land beneath them. It seemed like they were following the migrating birds down to the south, but i didn't understand why they did so. Where did they go? What happend to the people which were in the mills and houses? When will they return? Nobody knew. Nobody have seen that before. It was just strange.
