exporting to .stl and others

I'm not sure if you can export to 3ds directly. If you go to windows/settings-preferences/plug in manager. You should have something that will export other than .mb or .ma files. I use .dxf for polygonal models. And I know there are others .obj, etc. Try one of those, they might work. But I have never messed with 3ds max.
