k, I have so many ideas for this fantastic challenge, I am so exited lol !!...it will be my 1sth..
So since yesterday that I knew, I ask everybody what they thought was more funny from several ideas,
And this next idea have more votes and I think its more close to be in this challenge, So imagine this; Watching a Vampire in a sunny beach, wearing Speedos, and hanging with a Witch who loves the water, will be really something else to see, and I will add some more ironies on this beach! But for now having a victim will play and show case the real world from the extraordinary world witch will be the monsters.
It’s a quick sketch and I add some colors just to give a better idea of the characters and the role they play.

the bg will be better in this kinda beach, I think inspired in the beautiful beaches from Yucatan, were I planned haveing a best contrast of culture, tropical weather, and monsters.
what you guys think?

ok this is an idea for one of my side monsters in the beach a mini swam monster that its afraid of the water and have a kitten pet, whom loves water, so maybe the cat looks to comun ! sooo any thoughts? I will post soon more characters so you guys can vote your favorites....as also envioraments.
Hi
donnow if cats love water (so actually that is a plus because it adds to the strange behaviour factor)
I like the vampire goes on beach holiday better though... you could make a nice tropical beach which would contrast nicely with the cold, dark world we know vampires live in

-Thanks a lot Slav for the support hope, I can put in a good name the candian artists, or at least not bad!
-Thanks also for the coments Johan, yes the Vampire will be for sure the main one then the witch , and the others, I am not sure yet.
about the bg yes it will be a tropical beach, to play the contrast.I am just not sure if to se some Mayan's ruins or it will be to much elemets allready?. hehe

alright this is the concept for the witch one of the many character I think having for my Mayan Beach, she going toward the water and she will be a funny version of the pin-ups of the 50s on green skin. its a 1sth look but not sure about the expression she leaves behind

This new strange behavior its a sketch of my idea of a big illustration in witch the characters will be separated in 3 parts , the main one will be my vampire-then this with the Witch and then the other with the were wolf and the skeleton girl (and some bg characters). The reason I am sticking with the summer for monsters Idea its because, When I used to be goth. And evil,( 1 of my many phases ) we moved to live to Cancun, as you can imagine, I was devastated about not having my perfect “London” weather, and since there I start to adapt better to other weathers haha! So I think on that every time I see a dark drawings and characters witch I love, I think what will happen for all those poor evil souls, when it’s not dark or grayish? This is the reason, of my decision in taking this monsters, out side of their natural habitat and there fore behaviors.
Please let me know what you think of the idea?
Btw-I don’t like this perspective but I have to make graphic my idea, to know your opinion....Thanks :) before going into composition ideas!...:)

Bruja-Thanks a lot! I give it a change to the witch. Let’s see if this make her a bit more approachable for the challenge
Rishikesh-Thank you, I will keep the werewolf and the sk.girl, because looks promising to the idea of the challenge. And having good feed back always helps, thanks!
Neville-I will guive my best to put a good show hehe, thanks for the support
Uldison-I will post some other sketches about the werewolf and his friend, and let's hope you find them appealing.
Kei- Thanks so much, I was so exited that you were taking time for feed back, I will keep the little monster that’s the next sketch, I am only iffy about the cat with him or with the witch running in the ocean. witch its weird also I think?

Nice start here! I'm not sure which direction you're going, though; after all these different concept drawings. Are you going for just a certain couple, or in the end will there be all these things on the beach at once in a huge wide-shot? (you do have 117'ish days to do it :)) Also, will this be a painting or in 3d?
Suggestion-wise, I have only one at the moment -- Make the kitten gray, and maybe one-eyed or something just to make it look jacked-up. The reason I suggest this is that in Shakespeare's MacBeth, one of the three witches who drive the story is attended to by a cat named Greymalkin. A literary reference is a great way to add weight to an image; anyone familiar with the reference can connect the two and that brings all these subtexts and allusions to the party.
Good luck with your work! I'll be keeping an eye out for it :)

Hi Axel, you've done a lot of work, man. And a very nice one :-)
I like the idea and the characters concept. My two cents are that I think a tropical landscape must heve a most brilliant/blue sky.

Hey Axel,
You have got some fantasy there! :D I am wondering which direction you will choose to go...

Thanks a lot for all the feed back. Every one of you, are awesome artists.
Uldison- Thanks a lot for the funny note, I just have to play with the devil, and push his behavior limits, as he does with us, sometimes as well.!
Carlos- Thank you, I will add more funny things and hope you like them!
Chris- I will put all the monster’s teams in the beach in one illustration, since it’s a challenge and we have time. And it will be 2D because I have no patience what so ever for 3d software. I am a bit old school, and having a tablet it’s already to tech for me!! haha… For the cats reference I love your suggestion, I definitely love history weight composition on any illustrations, and I will put my brain to think witch way to approach that design. I had on my mind, a half zombie cat I will post it and let’s see what you think? Because I am going towards a very cartoonist but yet detailed style for my illustration so that’s why I am taking time on playing around for the characters ideas.
King- hey thanks a lot! For the support as well we are practically neighbor’s haha, and yes I will keep posting , because I have so many darn ideas, that its one of my problems, make up my own mind on what to pick. maybe its why I am doing a beach lots of characters.
Giovanny- I am thankful that you like the ideas, because I want to make some laughs (good ones) about my finished idea. The sky will be for sure blue and bright so its more rare in contrast with those strange skin colors of my monsters…and besides it’s going to be clear sand and a Caribbean’s turquoise ocean. will post that more detailed later.
Alexandra-yes fantasy its my real way to live..ha ha ha..So I will pick the direction on the funny and strange, as also cute for some reason, maybe it is part of the strange for me? About the direction will be very stylized not to photorealistic besides the environments, since I like fantasy that way.
Serena- I am glad you liked, hope you like the next ideas, and have a good funny time.

Hey axel,
I like the werewolf and the girl; the werewolf seem to be excited at something the girl is doing. It's really quite strange. haha, btw nice concepts, it's expected from the dark artist axel alonso. Good Luck!

That's possibly the cutest jellyfish I ever saw. The aquarium's deifinitely a great place for inspiration; I used to work at one too. Shame I was stuck outside selling tickets
I would suggest you start roughing out ideas of the full picture; nothing too detailed, scribbles would do. It would just help you out to see these ideas all brought together to figure out how it'll all work in the end. You might even get new ideas for how they might interact with each other.
Thanks for the comments on my WIPs, by the way :)

Soooo, since i got the invitation to your galery i've been looking for your entry, but i still get lost in this enormous site, thanks by the way.
You know, i find the red devil selling crucifixes really hilarious, but i liked the hot witch better than the fat one (i wonder why). I think if you really meke her aclasic pinup style she shoul be alitlttle less thin and with a cute expresion , that would look weird in a witch, i think, and that is good...
that little octopus thing it's really funny!!
keep the good work!

Hey Tom,
I am so glad to see you here my friend, its great you are visiting the old friends haha..I was intrigued about your thoughts on the relationship of the werewolf and the skeleton girls, so I guess as long its strange its ok for me!...and yes, you know me Dark its par of me..haha…:buttrock:
Chris- great to see you here more often I am always happy to hear all your feed back its great! :applause:So taking your suggestion this next post its all about the hole concept, I am sure its going to be a lame try, but once we all see it, the better understanding will came out of it!:hmm:
So please let me know what you think? and Iam sorry about been out side the aquarium! It’s like you are inside of the water tank instead of a fish in those jobs.
Gabriel- Thanks a lot for taking a look , for the “paisanos” hahaha…About yur suggestion; I also like more the hot witch and the pin up idea…so I will have her as a surfer with a sarcophagus lid shape board…and I will take your great suggestion in the body type and the face as well…lets se if it works:rolleyes:

Groovy :) You whipped this out fast; I wasn't expecting color and everything. I like the idea of the witch surfing on a coffin lid :D
A few suggestions --
) You could have the vampire holding in his lap one of those foil-covered reflectors that tan-enthusiasts use to toast themselves. That would elevate the vampire from just being out in the sun to actively absorbing it, making it that much weirder.
) Have the Girl From The Black Lagoon's eyes wiiiide open and locked on the waves, to connect her emotional response to the water rather than the kitten. Conversely, have the kitten wide-eyed with excitement and absolutely pouncing the wave.
) A small detail, the werewolf's finger forms a tangent with the octopus in the background. That's an easy fix; just nudge either one a little bit to either side.
) I'm noticing that both the vampire and the werewolf flashing 'the horns'. You could turn the vampire's attention, having him flashin' it back to the werewolf rather than the camera to relate the two, and in so doing, you'll have the vampire leading you into the image rather than being a dead end for the eye-path.
) The liquid in the vampire's margerita needs to be level to the horizon line. Gravity and all that.
That's all I've got for now :) Take care!

hey man,
Your image is turning into a ball of fun, I like looking through it and just figuring out and realizing what they're all about. Though I'm not really sure how all these things are fitting together though, have you seen an old painting called 'garden of delights'?

Carlos- Thanks so much, I was worry about the witch not been able to deliver the strange factor in my idea, since I really was hopeing to add her. :)I will post some other sketches and hope you can tell me what you rather must...thanks man!
Chris-Everything you said I am working on that I agree, and LOVE the idea for the vampire; I am so toasting that guy! About the flashing horns, excellent suggestion for composition, I will make sure that there’s no dead end in the composition....
I will post sketches of every character since having them all in detail in one big one will be difficult to judge, so more than welcome anything you can suggest.
Thank so much for the support once again!
King- Very nice reference painting!! Thanks! I was looking at it for more than an hour! I was so thrill wit it. And I will probably not go as far (but I wish, though) because my computer it’s going to burn...haha, and I am up to have fun here, haha

Thanks everybody for the great feedback, its helps me so much to understand better…
Serena- Thanks so much for the great suggestion, since I will add some clouds here and there and maybe to made things more clear of my madness a rainbow?….let’s see haha!
Agostino-It’s great to see you here, and I love the idea that more people like monsters like me …so don’t worry about that, if anything I am glad that I am not the only one…so let’s show them some fun in a peculiar “monsterific” way , hope to hear more from you!
Kei- wow! your awesome! Haha you add, inspiration to the thread to entreating better!...About the “big foot\yeti” thanks I am glad you like it. But I was thinking in giving him the more cold creature factor so maybe instead of the sand shape, an Igloo of sand, and something else with him, hmmm lets se if in the next sketch you like that idea?
And hope you still thinks is cute and fun … I like doing that with monsters haha..
Uldison- hey great to hear more from you! I am glad you like the idea so far, it’s for now, unpolished, but I will keep working on that. About your great suggestion, I will add more inter action between the characters and I think I will give also an assistant to Mr. Vampire to help him refresh…lest see if you like the idea in the next sketches?

All right! This is the 1sth sketch of study to my skeleton girl “Skullina” coz I am still iffy in were direction to go? The others are more consistent to what I was planning but this little girl its not strange enough for me still, I will also enchase more my Mexican culture, Back Ground, so I will give her some decoration on her skull like we do in the our death skeleton art..haha so please comments....:) it’s the best way for me to understand if you like it or not ?
http://www.geocities.com/axelealonso/skullina_studyfaces.jpgTHANK YOU…..:scream:
Heeey, she is so nice! I love her lashes and that little flower on the head! Nice sketch and character research...
And sunbathing vampire is one of my favorites :)

Alexandra-I am so glad you thought she was cute, since part of my dilemma was that…and I will definitely keep that flower, I was only a bit unsure of witch one you liked more if the one attached to her bandana, or the one printed in her head?. Thanks to stopping by …and replaying so fast hehe!:D
George- Thank for the suggestion of the clouds, I must surely add some, since I need more space and illusion of the best weather possible to make a clearer statement of the strange behavior in these dark creatures. And they do seem a bit crowded but hopefully with some more experiments with all of them I will made the right composition and scale, I will be more than happy to hear anything you suggest, Thanks again George.:)
Serena- a very important thing you suggest, that I completely overlooked Thanks!...for “Skullina” since she will be riding her pal the were wolf, I was expecting to make a good strange personality that will demonstrate she’s a kid able to look like the kid and her dog hanging out in the beach….doing some cool stuffs off curse she would be the kind of girl, whose not at all scared of anything , since she got a were wolf as best friend, and she will be doing with him some cool extreme sport…maybe she even might found this boring! I mean she’s a skeleton what else could happen to her..:scream:

Mm so the Skullina's keywords are : decision, strong, extreme, no fear. Isn't it?
In this case I think that the description you gave us with the sketches is more like a "sweet, fashion little skeleton". If you notice you described her with stars, perfect hairs, ribbons..like a fashion-system addicted.

sorry I haven’t post anything but Mr. Potter have stopped all my concentration! haha but I almost finish the book...I will post something this weekend it will be a lot ! Like 10 sketches, haha...but that's what I get for adding so many characters! Its like a big casting here, everybody want to be part of the Monster’s Holiday ….:bounce:
Manny-I bet animated will be so fun,:D maybe I will some day on 2d with some cg environments, but I need more time for that!... And I was thinking on adding some animals, as well but I was afraid of make it to populated lol. But no problem with that, just my composition might change of scale, hahaha I was thinking on adding a large whale bullying some sharks out of the water…and some bats painting them selves as seagulls leaving drops of paint in their path ?
Serena- you are right She does seem more fashion than extreme sport girl!:buttrock: I just want that darn flower in her head hahaha…but I have a new version of her, and you let me know what you think! I will post her this weekend.Thank You so much for keep an eye maybe 2 on her!:)
Gabriel- Good to see you again, :DI post her as non official, maybe that’s why you missed her, but I want those piggy tails too ! But a dark friend of mine told me to get over it , and that skulls cant have hair so she made me change her hahahaha…but some resent corpses might still have some right? so I will follow your advice…Thanks!
Rishikesh-I am glad to see you here, I know, my composition, have no layout what so ever, but I haven’t decide quiet right all the characters yet, so that’s why its been difficult to made the right choice, hope to hear your opinion on the final steps of the characters compositions….:)

well instead of giving them some boring para sailing activity...I thought why not use that big octopus, he might not enjoy it, but will be fun to ! and then the trio its complete! hope you like them I am still not so happy with their expressions I will made more studies since "Skullina" will be pretending to have fun when shes not, its boring, "Wolfred" will be having a blast, and "octavio" will be in horror...

Alright! this is one of the favorite characters I think...and I made him more scare of the water, while his kitty pet its anything but that! I get a little bit inspired of the lifesaver of one that I reember seeing in a pool when was little.it was some kind a "flamingo" weird!

great progress Axel... I love the Devil character and the communication between the vamp and werewolf... The only sketch that doesn't really work as good as the others is the witch... the pose makes her feel like she is about to fly and there is something strange going on with the eyes... keep it up

Uldison-So Glad to se you are checking the thread, Thanks motivates me a lot! I am also very glad that you like the characters and Mr. Devil will be glad to that its your favorite! Thanks!
George- Thank you. so much for the comment! You are so right the proportions for the Witch were wrong! I correct them and post the new ones hope you like them! Although I change the pose, I twist it a little bit haha so you can see a better running action towards the water, any how please let me know what you think? Thanks for dropping by again!
Serena- Hello hey so glad to hear from you as always! I will repost the Witch, lets see if keep like in her haha! As soon as I finish the line art of all the characters I can pass to the Environment and start going for more details! You always add motivation in the thread Thanks Serena again!

alright some changes I did for bad proportions and better pose for the action to run towards the water
Hey Axel, a cool idea, very nice !!! I like a lot your sketches.
About the sexy surfer witch, I think she has a big turn in her torso or if she is turning to view to someone the surfers board perspective dont match. Her legs are some short for the head and torso proportions, only a comment :)
Great work! and for sure I'm forward your nice concept! Good Luck!

07-25-2007, 10:51 AM
Ok man, it will be hard cause I don't manage english so well but I'll try to explain what I see in this witch.
Of course you need to check proportions (I think you simply have to enlong her legs and stop) but now try this experiment :
1. put a white layer over her legs (till the pelvis). See how the "upper" part of her body goes to the image's lower left corner
2. now cover the upper area : see how legs follow the bottom borderline's direction.
This is what, in my opinion, you've to check in this image.
Of course, legs are more easy to redraw than breast and face ...
Ah, if you set her going to the left corner, I agree with Ferx, check the surfboard perspective
Good work man, I wait updates :)

Hey Axel,
I have to agree with Ferx and Cyborg on this one... she looks like she is twisting her waist too much right now... i dont think i need to add anything to the advice provided.. keep it up and keep us posted

Getting Hotter Yeah!!
Uh, Axel, I think you're missing something: her left leg is in front so her left arm should be going back for balance, that way you would achieve that dynamic 'Bay Watch slo-mo' feel that everyone remembers with joy.:D right now the arm is in the middle of it's action so it's a little static, i think.
Hey wait, if you do this then the right arm (the one holding the board) would be going front, to show this you could tilt the board clockwise a bit.
Hope it helps!

07-28-2007, 09:56 AM
hey Axel... the leg and board are looking a lot better but i was thinking what steeve wrote before i read his post... the normal way of walking is, for example left foot forward, right hand forward... This (using some great info from the animators survival kit) can be changed in any manner to show a certain goofyness in the character or add something to their personality... While this would work in motion (all the anticipation to get in the water etc) it doesn't give your drawing a dynamic enough feel... She feels more posing than running at the moment... keep it up, i am sure you will make it work

This one has upon request a skull's pattern swim suit, hope it helps better for her character, and also the arm back and the surfer board a bit more tilt clock wise, Well hope its what was going wrong, in her I am not to happy with her hands, but I guess that pattern wont help to made to much character in the pose of her hand..

Took me a little while to catch up on everything you've done; it's lookin' good :) A couple notes on the pose:
) Considering her weight is borne down on her left foot, her left hip should be lower than her right one.
) I would suggest pulling her elbow and forearm just a liittle higher up, firstly so that you can get the most extreme pose possible, and secondly so you can get her hand out of the detail-work on that coffin lid (I wouldn't mind being buried in that thing, by the way :D ). As it is, her fingers are forming all kinds of tangents with the detailing and making it confusing. You can get the most out of both the hand and the detail by separating 'em a little.
)Try closing her grip. People tend to run with their fingers more reined in. Might help
I look forward to your next update! Keep it up!

Hola Axel, oh man !! great great witch, a great change! :applause: I love it!! nice running pose.
About right hand, I think you need to show ( the fingers taking hold the board) The surferboard is more strech and looks really nice !
About feets. They are a bit turning to the left (to the camera) . Turn a bit to the right (guides by the navel of the witch )
I think that some hair over left arm will be nice. Only a idea :)

Hey Axel!! Seems that I missed your last post, maybe because it was a foot, :D Anyway I have to say you're doing your homework with the witch, Good!! Yeah, that reference will do fine.
Now maybe i could bother you with the hair, as Ferx suggested before, it could drop on the shoulder, but I would add that it could flow more naturally, right now all the mass of hair follows one action line (Thats OK), but it only starts to divide at the very end of it, letme show you a picture, is easier (http://www-evasion.imag.fr/Publications/2003/BKCN03/comparisons.jpg)(the upper right one) Here's another one (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/2471802/2/istockphoto_2471802_carefree_woman_with_long_hair_in_motion.jpg)I know this is damn hard to draw but I mean you could represent that feeling of motion in your drawing.
Mmmm I liked the previous position of the board (not the sape, the shape is much better now) , but don't mind me.
As I was looking at pictures i found one that could help you with the first position of the girl, but since you changed it i think is not very useful now, anyway here it is. (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b397/mel212/Woman_running_beach_dupe.jpg)

I like a lot the new witch's hair , nice!!, and i see that you put the right hand grabing the board. Hi again Axel,
the witch is looking much better... the only remark that i have is that its pretty much impossible to hold a board like that while running... I would give it an angle (in perspective) and i think that would make things much better...

Hello Axel, glad to see an update from you. I know you are probably tired of hear about her, but there is something weird about the way she grabs the board. Maybe she is too skinny to handle such a big board or the balance it is not right. How about try making her grab the center of the board like in your earlier sketches?
AxelAlonso

Fernando- Thanks so much amigo!:D It’s great to be back! And keep enjoying the challenge’s environment, with awesome artist like you! Lets see how the Witch will end up in this next post. As for the hands I work on the scale a little, I just didn’t want to use a big hands to make her more feminine! I like long fingers more! But they won’t show in that pose...hmm
George- I am glad to hear from you, always good advises my friend,;) I just add some perspective to the board, so I think it’s more natural! But I am not sure? I will work on her until it looks as it should! Thanks again …and comment all you want as always!

Axel, I hate been a bitch, but see how the board is lower under the arm? I think that is the big mistake you doing; your witch almost doesn’t have a "shoulder/armpit" and unless she is very strong she still grabbing the board in a wrong spot. I really hope i am helping you and not making you angry. Best of luck, your friend...

Hi Axel, I really like the new girl, great drawing!
It seems like you're about to go crazy with this board :D I'd probably separate it, if it's not already, and play with it independently for a while on another layer. You may find out that you'll need to change it once you start painting too, so I always think that it's a good thing to keep things on separate layers, you can always merge them later. as far as the board, I think you don't need the perspective - it actually looks a bit wrong, your 2nd last post has the board very nice, all you need to do is to make it thinner a little, keeping the part that touches the hand in place, thus giving a bit more space between the shoulder line and the top contour of the board. Also you could slide it to the left a little so that the center of gravity makes more sense with her hold. You could very quickly do these, if the board is on its own layer.. Keep up the good work buddy, this drawing has come a long way and it's looking really good now, waiting for other characters
Hey Axel, I agree with Jeff and Uldison. I think you need to strech the board, the witch grabing on the center of the board (like your previous "green" witch") , like says Jeff. Keep the good work amigo !! (and I love that sexy witch!!)

Yeeeess ssiiiiiirrrrr! that's the perspective!! hard one but I think you got it, and I could also suggest that you don't sweat it too much:D I know how bad one can get obsessed with these drawings of sexy girls (I'm a recovering addict to it). and maybe that's why you had so much trouble with the board. the sight becomes narrow of looking so much at the same picture.... There is till a lot of time and chance to change everything and she's looking neat just now!!
OHH i'm actually wondering about skullina getting this treatment,:love:that will be great:rolleyes:.
See you around Axel, This is getting so interesting now...................
Hey Axel,
Beautiful progress !
Last pose for witch is definitely better, it's more dynamic. And very nicely designed board!
If I may... there is still something not entirely well with her feet... may be they are too small?
And with skeleton girl, I loved that band flower on her head. And I like actually that she is kind of fashion girl :).
Sorry for not stepping by for so long - I had a busy summer.

this looks like a very good idea for the enviroment but i think that the perspective of things should be corrected a bit... keep it up Axel

The design is great on this one and will add big to the overall concept!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I think the two troubles you describe come from the same source: You need a vanishing point, right now the buildings look kinda isometric, remember perspective is what does the magic trick of bringing front the closest objects(the sand and sea and waves) and pushing back the far away ones (the buildings and beach as it fades into horizon).
Your horizon line is about in the middle of the picture, but the pyramid's bottom lines point to somewhere way up, and that's what causes the effect of the picture being taken from above. In fact, if the vampire sitting on the chair would hop down of it, he would fall some 7 feet and chip a fang!:D
If you have trouble with this (I know well that perspective is a pain in the rear):) just let me know, there are many ways to go without having to dust off your giant geometry squares and T-ruler (yuck).
Keep us posted!!
Hey Axel,
That's a very nice start of the environment design! Love that palm tree and that round brick thing on the foreground (though I don't know what's it :D)!
I agree with Gabriel about the perspective, things are looking a bit flat right now... But you going to fix it for sure, unless it's a part of your style.
Good work! Keep going!

Fernando-¡Muchísimas Gracias Amigo!:) Ayuda mucho tus palabras de apoyo!
I am glad you like the design of the skulls, since it was my intention to go for the “Mayan /Toltec” style, and yet to cover the monster tropical mood! I agree in the cloth texture though, it was a quickie just to see how high Hill be those pyramids.:D
George-Thanks for the comments helps a lot! Yes that perspective was all wrong; I guess I was wondering if the pyramids will work as well for design and all that! although,I will keep working on it Thanks again!:)
Gabriel-Hola Mr. master de los consejos! Ayudaria el saber despues como usas el vanishing point en PS.?jaja
Well I think I correct the horizon line at the BG, hope looks better with everything else let me know please!
Alexandra-:wavey:Hi there! and Thanks so much for the kind’s words of support! I am glad you like the “pillar of the sun” (that’s how I decide to call it) haha were did it came from? Probably from some lost pyramid that went to the ocean were, Mr. Vampire it’s taking base on, for his sun bath! I am fixing all the perspective, so do tell me all you think on, plase! Thank You!:D
Sorry for the late post, to much work lately! But you guys are Awesome!:applause:THANKS

Hi Axel, sorry man, I wrote a long reply to you some time ago, but when I wanted top post it, cgtalk went into maintanance :P :D so everything I wrote was gone...
your characters are fantastic, and the FG elements in your environment are delicious... I'd like to mention 2 things:
1) I'd try to spread out your characters a bit more into the scene, change their sizes so that some of them are close-up and some of them are far away from the scene. Right now it looks like there is a Fg and a MG for the characters, I think a character or two in the bg could improve your setting.
2) your horizon line corresponds to the base of the bg buildings, in that case we wouldn't be seeing the ground on which those structures stand. right now it has a feeling of downhill a little. If you redraw your hill in a way that we don't see the ground on it, or we see it very very thin, it'd be a lot easier for you to get the right perspective for the buildings... well, these are my 2 c buddy...
keep up the good work, can't wait to see those characters painted!!!

Hola Axel, como has estado? hace algun tiempo que no te veía por aquí :) Me gusta muchisimo tu concepto y tus personajes están de poca "m", la verdad te va a quedar una ilustración muy fregona :D
Hey Axel, great update my friend, i love all your characters, really cool!!
A question, the werewolf and skullina are fying with the octopus?
I think the "diablo" need to be left beside of "big foot", and the octopus group moving a bit to the left (diablo between octopus group and big foot)
I like a lot your pyramid designs, really great , perhaps more mountains in the horizon, from your last mountain, diminishing them, to behind bigfoot, only a comments :)
Again, great work Axel Cheers  (creo que ya no podemos estar cheleando mucho y ya hay que darle prisa a esto o no acabamos... jajajajajaja :D )

Thanks so much for the feed back, and comments, as for the Devil and the Octopus party team! I already switch them to see how they work, maybe the mountains will be added, if the heavy clouds that I am planning to add from the left side won’t work! :rolleyes:And the Octopus supposedly it’s like a parasailing thing the like to do, there will be some bats caring the octopus I just haven’t done those yet! Becaouse all the strings that make the composition a bit too messy! With out color!
And I am very glad and happy you like the buildings, trying to get in touch with my culture back grounds haha!:buttrock:

(they will be polished once I start painting them don't worry:rolleyes:) Since ther will be no seagulls allowed in this paradise for monsters!, and I didn't add too many of them because they are vampire’s bats so they should be strong enough to hold them all! By the way thank You Fernando :)! I changed the characters like you so wisely mentioned before and it work like magic! THANKS!:scream:

hey Axel long time no see.... forgiveme for not posting right away when I saw your new one yesterday but it was like 2:00 AM already, boy, this afterhours are killers! and I just seem to get nowhere.. Im glad you are doing better than me because I see a great improvement here......
Woha... the wacky octopus expression finaly has an explanation and it's cool and funny indeed, only I think that now this group looks like the main element in the picture, if you mean it that way then no problem, but being that the case then I remember a previous post that showed the wolf and oct at the right of the picture, thus creating a diagonal path as you follow their relationship with the vampire, and I think it could work better for the rest of the chatacters to be in between of those two.
Right now the witch is fleeing from the picture. Her, the horizon line and the diagonal edge of the sea create kind of a composition arrow pointing to the right, and that could draw all the sights away of the actions in the middle and specially from your cool pyramids in the left!! Oh, that woud be bad!! !!
I could suggest to grab the four character on the sand and move them to the left, then fly the wolf group to the right corner and see how it works, I'm not sure, but that could help.
Oh, and I think the sea kid's eyes are looking a bit to high, Hey! he's staring at the witch!!... the little peeper.....:eek: oh heck, I would do that too if I was standing right there.
See you aroud as always Axel, and excuse any typos, my mind went to sleep like half an hour ago...

I am in talkative visions mode. My suggestion regards the beach an attractive witch and a handsome vampire, so far nothing new. Now use a different ending to the Wizard of Oz, there was yet one more evil witch and she takes Dorothy and the remains of her crew to the beach and is joined by her vampire friend. The shell of the tin man is seen as rusted and sticking out of the sand, what’s left of the scarecrow is sticking out of a fire. A rug under the table a looks a lot like a human-like-lion, and over the fire a small form is roasting (Toto?). As for Dorothy the Rudy slippers are on the witch’s feet. Perhaps other indications of Dorothy demise such as the large hour glass with all the sand at the bottom. In the sky a dark lettering stating “GOOD RIDANCE DOROTHY” that is reminiscent of the “Surrender Dorothy” seen in the original film. Maybe this will give a conceptual and visual context, via multiple cliché abuses. I am not familiar enough with these forums to know if suggestions for major concept shifts are appropriate, if this is inappropriate then my apology. With the short time frame it will take some magic to pull off!
Again thank you for your recommendations, of course it is harder to implement than understand.

Hey Axel, me gustan mucho los cambios de la opción 2 ! y el fondo está muy fregón!!
Axel, i like a lot the changes on your composition, cool mate! and the background is really great, and with colour, pop beautiful! (perhaps the only test that you need to do is flip bigfoot, i think if he face to the right, all the characters now center the action on the beach) Again, really great work my friend ( and i love the sexy witch!!) Salud con café de olla !! ( y no le vayas a poner ron a tu cafecito, eh? aunque no es mala idea hahahahaha :D )

Hi Axel,
Your color palette is just great, and I love the distant mountains! So I guess I liked the composition with the witch running in the water, mostly because i can see more of the background there, and you could do splashes...
You could also try to shrink the werewolf/bats/octopus combination :D to about 20-25%, and move them to the upper-right corner of the composition in the sky, flying away. That would fill up the gap at that area of the canvas, and leave you all the room for you to render a nice background and clouds in the middle of your composition, which you already started. You could also try making the tanning guy bigger, about 150%, and rotate him clock-wise so that his foot gets out of the canvas (sometimes breaking the canvas like that may work nicely); which could bring him closer to us, and create a more powerful depth. some ideas anyway...
The new buildings in the bg look great! keep on rocking dude! loving those colors...

Only an opinion eh !
Good work man !

damn! love your palette! looking at the beach scene makes me wanna take a vacation! sighhh .. the good ol beach! love it! :p
i think i'll go with option 1 .. it leads the viewer right from left to right ... or more like a down slope .. also ..
> add the shadows to see how it works with the characters and with the entire scene ... it makes a big difference .. ( me found this out while painting the background ;) )
> more contrast to the mountains .. just like the buildings ..
thats it i guess .. maybe i'm missing smthin .. really eager to see your next update :p
cheers my friend! god bless!

HI Every Body THANKS SO MUCH! Sorry for replaying so late, I am in painting mode!:arteest: Your opinion, comments and votes, Mean a lot to me ... Thanks so much:love:
Ralph- Wow! So many clever ideas you got! Love the idea of the Witch leading the innocent Oz Team! To a new path, but for reasons of time, I am a bit late to change the whole concept! I hope I can spice up a bit more the personalities so they won’t look that ordinary! ;) And Dorothy might go to a sequel project in the future! But I can’t BQ poor Toto! I like dogs! I can BQ Dorothy though! JK….And for the help and support and effort to make a better artist in me! THANKS! I appreciate it so much!:D
Gabriel-QUE HONDA! JAJA! A thousands thanks, I think the new composition will work better 2nd it’s the winner so far , lets put all the crazy guys together! And that’s it! Haha , please let me know anything else pop up in your mind! Just vent over the thread!:wise:
Kamal- I am glad to see you like the fun day! They better have some fun after all my efforts to expose them in this weather!
Fer- Gracias Amigo! You are the guardian angel of the posts and comments! And I think the “Yeti” if I turn him to see the other guys, the little puddle won’t show that much! But once I update them we can always change our mind! All you said its very true! so I have it in mental note! Thanks again for keeping an eye on my thread with so much help!:scream:
Jeff- Hey you! Mr. Pro! Haha Can’t possible see a post form you with out learning something new! OMG you are right I change them and they look good! Only problem it’s that we had been alone on that idea of sexy Witch splashing water! So I will keep painting and see if still Works! Its awful to see same thing over and over and don’t came up with a clever way to put them! The Vampire, I changed a bit his place and rotate him as you said, and the Werewolf’s team I shrink him, but lead him at the left corner so it can made some eye contact with the witch! Thanks for the time and patience! Haha:)
Serena-I am so glad to see you ! I think so too those buildings need more contrast, let me know what you think in the next alright? Thank you Thank you!
Neville- Hey my friend! I am very grateful for the comments and ideas! :DI miss the beach as well, so maybe that’s why I will try to picture it as perfect as it can be, for a good monster’s holiday! Ah you are back! The virtual you that is (which is what I was referring to). I was worried that you had gotten into an altercation with Sponge Bob. I have trouble seeing the vampire guy’s canine teeth, and his bluish skin tone could be confused for one of those powerful blue sunscreen creams, so maybe try a touch of some light grays with a touch of sickly green?

i really like the surfer girl and the flying octopus. the girl looks like shes so excited to go to the beach reminds me of baywatch. maybe you could add some boat or kayak? but probably that will add more complexity so just stick with this idea and hope you finish it before the challenge is over. good luck.

So this time its her, and next time maybe my black cat "Edea" muwahah!:D So I am not done in all the shadows and texture for the sand castle and the Yeti's skin and horns, but since in the compsition they are a bit small not sure how much more should I go in details here besides the mentioned...?http://www.geocities.com/axelealonso/Yety.JPG

Next The Vampire "Victor", I have start with him already since he is one of the Stars and I want him done in any detail possible! I need reference for that darn foil tan thingy! but for now that crapy texture its doing some work in my head! I was going to made his skin a bit more grayish and pale! but he blends to much with the sand, so I am adding some purple/browns hues in his charming tan, ooh! he will have some props like the blood cocktail, and the towel maybe....hmm what about holy water? ooh and the expression its not my fav so far hmm! maybe its that weird right eye?

Ralph- Hey Thanks so much for all the help in the tones for the vampire :) I am still working in that green, the grey looks good on him the only bad thing it’s that he kind of looks so far like a statue hahaha! So with in this time I will give my best shoot! Thanks Ralph
Gabriel-Gracias amigo! I worked in all the coments you mentioned in Wolfred's colors, hope it looks a bit better now? as for that flying object love the owl idea! but I was thinking in doing my black cat flyng by mistake in a broom? but maybe thats to much, so a crow could be cool also haha! Thanks so much for the great idea!
Manny-I am so happy you like my Surfer Witch! :D She’s so ready for some action in the water, and she does have some serious thrill issues! Hahaha the kayak idea was great! Only bad thing its time at this moment! But could be added in version 2 though!
Nayra- Amiguitaaa de lo Piors! :love:Love to see you here Thank YOU!
You know I always enjoy anything you commnent about my work its always a good thing to know what the friends see in my work!
Neville-I am so happy with all your kind words :D Thanks my friend! I am following all the comments you mentioned already, in Octavio's skin next post will be definitely showing it! And you are hired for the animation project hahaha ! Well considering there will be one some time hmmm?
Kamall- You must go to a vacation with them:buttrock:!They sure will add something new to the holiday and you can never have too much fun! Thanks so much for the support! And for letting me know what you think of the progress!
Uldison-Hey my friend! thanks so much for all the advice its all sooo very true! I need more contrast and ground on them ! working on it for sure! Thank You! and Thanks again for you help and support ! I love how your painting its going!
Jeff- hi there! Thanks! Well what can I say more that pleased to know you found them funny like I do! Thanks for that, and I am very honoured you like my amateur color palette hahaha! I guess I do what I think I should do so thanks again for the support and words of encouragement!
Oh WOW Axel, this is really coming along BEAUTIFULLY! feels like a huge jump since my last visit  This is awesome! The only thing that really needs to be added to set this all off as Neville said are the charater shadows.
Wow, I really LOVE this! I was feeling so lazy when I woke up, I feel a lot better now. Thanks Axel! I need to go take a run then start working on my piece, be as busy and productive as you :D

Hello Axel,
This is really shaping up! As for the skin tones, a touch of flesh (peach) just here and there, some slightly blood shot eyes, reddish blush on the lip and the touch of blues veins here and there should bring him back from the dead.

Hi Kamal, Thanks so much for the kind words, always brings up a smile to see some one haveing fun in the life so I am glad I had capture some part in them, and glad you like them to :D do some run take some cafee, and do your wonderfull piece of art its comeing along so nicely! ooh! working on the shadows as well as soon as I have color in all of them a bit more....
I am off to work in the park! :arteest:and do some painting mean time my dog runs and eats people ( hahah one can only hope ):surprised
Hi Ralph- Hurray! I am so going to use all your color advices haha! he needs some touch up for sure! I was all night doing his skin  !So your are so helping me to take less cafee today! Thank you;)
Hey Axel, woooow awesom work my friend!! The Yeti´s fur its great!! and "Channel" its a really funny touch!! ( and the Channel fish is cool!! great design!) The wolfred group is comming along very nice!! ( I love the skullina´s eyeslashes!! She is sexy !!)
Victor is cool ( me gusta su pose de "galan de playa":D ) Perhaps on the props you can add a pair of sun glasses (Like in your previz sketches). I think the foil can be nice if reflects sunlight to Victor ( if not, maybe you can take out the foil :D ) I agree with you, the right eye looks a bit weird. The holy water sound good. maybe a bottle branded "Holy Water Tan Oil" - Sun factor protection 13 ( perhaps 666 but sound more diabolic... hahahahahahaah :D )
Again, great and awesome work Axel!! Cheers !! :COFFEE: ( not beers for now  ... hahahahaha :D )

Damn, holly water as tun oil is a funny and crazy idea. I love it.
Axel, the fur on the yeti looks great, good job. Everything is looking fantastic. The vampire's head make me uncomfortable though. I think it could be more relaxed; he could be resting his head against something, maybe. Or perhaps he could have some sort of more comfortable seat. Well, just an idea; I hate see such a stud suffering in such a hard surface.
Anyway, you are the only person on earth that call me Luiz, so you own the right to keep calling me that.

Hey Axel,
Nice work there man, you have my vote.
I must say that I always liked you're style of design back in AI, especially character design class.
And also this time I like your characters, especially the swamp kid with his cat who's running towards the ocean haha....brilliant.
good luck with the competition, and hope to stay in touch a bit.

Hey Axel, Victor looks nice, and I can see that you are working on the foil reflect in his face, that is great strange behavior for a vampire!! cool!! Perhaps his fangs are a bit large, but i cant see your before large images .

Hey Axel,
Sorry for being away for so long but i have been too busy at school... Victor looks good but just as a suggestion, you could add some burn marks on his skin... And maybe tone down the green tones in the shadows... looking good overall...
keep it up buddy,
George
Hey Axel,
Very nice progress on vampire and the snowman group! This is really going the right way, my friend !!!
Just a tiny-bitty suggestion: you may make a bigger contrast between lighting on his sun side and shadow side, and may be even add some glow on skin on some hotspots? Just a thought...
Good work!

Axel,
The Vampire is looking great! I like the new fangs but I would shorten them just a touch, and maybe a little stronger shadow under his foot. The fur and detail on the “Snowman” are also looking great, my only concern there is he seems to have the same skin color as the Vampire, maybe a touch more blue?:)

Hi Axel,
Great going, being a digital work there really never is an ending if you want to keep refining it.
Great to see it all come together. Love the witch’s bating suit, surfboard, her makeup and hair and the Vamp’s suntans lotion. The cat’s leash is a bit day glow; needs a shadow and the witch’s feet are bit on the short side, unless you like shorter feet. I used the liquefy tool to stretch them out a bit (digit abuse?).
http://s238.photobucket.com/albums/ff257/korendo/
Look forward the your final and your artist statement! Thanks for all your helpful comments and encouragement!
Hey Axel, really great updates my friend !! Amazing characteres !! and the colours on them are really cool!! Yerba is really hot, and i like her black hair and her ultra sexy green skin!!
Great detail on Victor´s bloody mary glass, and the bottle of sun protector its a cool touch ! hahahahaha :D Very nice expression on the swamp boy and his cat ! ( I love that fearless cat!) oohhh y Mr. Cruz is an authentic devil!! hahahaha, awesome character design! Your concept its growing in a cool way !! Again, great work Axel ...you are going out of the last curve and entering in the final straight, put all the gas !! go, go, go, go Axel

Hey Axel, great updates. I love all the characteres. I would like to point one thing and sorry if you already read this somewhere, I did not went back in your comments to check, but I think the background is too soft against the sharppines of your figures and I think it helps make them look like they are floalting, not grounded. well
This shows better the textures and colors...o man did I have fun with Victor's color skin, (not) hahaha and hope my cat looks haveing fun at the sea..with his not so crazy abou it "pal" ..Wolfred's team looks just like I picture maybe I could add more time in them but drives me crazy when deatils wont show up! heheh well just let me know..
I know what you mean Axel about not being able to se ethe texture, especially when you put so much time into it. Well that's why you can always crop sections and show them in all their glory :D . The most important thing though is that the image as a whole works. It would suck to have amazing details and superb texturing and the image doesn't even fit, or worse doesn't say anything at all. You need not worry about that because your image speaks! There is a lot to be absorbed from your piece and I hope you finish the way you want to my friend!
You have my best wishes, keep it going.

Hey, thanks for stopping by again, you are my foremost visitor ;) hands down.
Soon your there also and i hope you enjoy yourself as much as i have!
So now for my cents, love the water where it hits the sand but i am missing a little more color in the water further out, just to pop it into life a bit more, blends with the sky a bit otherwise but sure hope the halloween party at school next week is as great as this will be! Rock the last days now! tell me when its finished, want to see.

Johan - Hi Thanks so much! for the support! I am glad you like the colors, and Octavio's face, I am really happy you enjoy the moment! And thanks for Victor's sugestion, but I gave him that anatomy to exagerate a bit more the vampires body, Since they are really strong! and also some people can show that defination depending in how tall and ripped they are :) Thanks for the support!

Well Hurray! we got more time but I finish all this tonight so I guess its best to show up the new things I add , like the Witch's coffin, I add this prop to give a better history to "Yerba" adding the purple towel, and some pumpkins instead of watermelon, as we usually take to the beach! I also add another cloud so the sky wont look with out any flavor! hate not having details in my ideas! haha! and also I did and upgrade to the pyramid temple so it will look more tall and adequate to the environment...oh some more blue in the ocean as well! haha! Thanks guys I will keep smoothing this ..but I need some sleep! hurray!

Axel hahahaha!:eek:This looks great! The clouds and the pyramids looks wow fantastic very original my dear evil friend! and the cofrin seems to be the perfect beach accesorie for Mrs.Witch Yerba ( cool name)...I want to see what else you are goint to do there ...it looks Fantastic wow!:applause::bounce:
Hi Axel,
Wow, looking fantastic!
You have got so much more depth in it then before! And those clouds are amazing, I didn't even notice at first their skull shape :)!
You could get your devil character little deem in color - just to suggest that he is feather down the beach. And that wonderfully looking frog boy could use some more translucency may be? Just some suggestions :)!
And hurry up, I want to see this finished!
Pumpkins for everyone!!:D You know Axel... those pumpkins did a really great job in activating the space. Now that you have added those, the image is becoming a lot stronger. I have a little suggestion maybe... Those palm trees far in the background... do you think you could make another one a bit closer to us tilting toward the water (bending to the viewers right) Just for experiment, it may add a lot to the image. I was thinking that it might be able to somehow bring us closer to the characters even more in the active area and not have us look far off into the distance at those bunch of distant palm trees.
The image works great as is! Just something you could experiment with. Might just reveal something new to your eyes too

hey Axel amigo! i've been away from the posts, and you went full speed, this is looking awesome man! everything is turning our great, colors are fantastic, and those clouds, hahahahha. You did such a good job with them, i wasn't expecting skull clouds :D
the brown hill on the BG ends very steep, it looks a little boxy to me, i think a slight slope could make it look better, but thats just my opinion buddy, keep it up. more time, more art!
