View Full Version : Bodypaint & Pyrocluster enquiery...
Peter C. 03-21-2003, 01:59 PM Hi all!
I was wondering if anyone with experience with these two modules could comment on their advantages. I have R8 with the advanced render module and love it to death. But I cant keep my mind off these modules :bounce:
Can UVmapper Pro be a good alternative (albeit more mork) to Bodypaint? What can Pyrocluster do with ease that I cant to in R8? I find the info on MAXON's site very limited....
BodyPaint is so damn expensive, and Pyrocluster pretty steep but possible. Would you recommend me getting Pyro to start with? I use C4D for hobby, trying to learn the program untill I can use it for my work and possibly earn back some of the money.
What would you suggest?
Cheers!

It depends on what you're going to do and what you need. I don't think the infos on the Maxon site are limited, there are even 2 (or maybe 3, can't remember) videos that explain how Bodypaint works. Tell us what you need and we'll give a more precise answer ;)

I really wouldn't recommend PC for a hobbyist unless you have money to spare, PC takes a fair bit of learning, can be somewhat limited, and isn't going to do more than cloud/smoke/rought foliage, other than that its use isn't really there, and all three of those things have decent alternatives for a hobbyist, BP on the other hand might be a worthy investment if you save up.

Thanks for the very quick responces!
I have no appearent need for any module as Im not working comercially yet. Im just "playing" with the program untill I have the skill enough to use it on a higher level. However, I am wondering if these modules could enhance my current private work. It is an expensive hobby, but one I like a lot and of which I could profit from in the future. So, what I am asking really is what you users personaly think of these modules; what are the benifits & Features is has brought to your work?
I'll will download the BP demo as soon as I get home :)

PC: Bah! :hmm:
BodyPaint 3D: fantastic 3D painter it allows you to paint even in raytrace mode, it means you can render your model and start painting in real time over it. Good UV tools, nice Painting options... A great program imo, definitely worth the price. :)

PyroCluster: If it didn't exist, we would really lack something. But that doesn't mean you couldn't imagine something better for pyroclastic rendering. As indicated in previous threads: it needs an update. It needs a tighter integration with the current material system, for instance. And it needs faster rendering. Search the forum for more info on the topic
BodyPaint: there's a reason for it's price. Not having to switch back and forth between Photoshop and your 3D app is a real timesaver. Which is why they have it as a standalone version for LightWave and Max. Weren't there rumours about a Maya version as well? Anyway: worth the money, if you need to do a lot of tweaking of bitmap-based textures. Typically something for character stuff, but not limited to that range of work.
But perhaps, if you don't need BodyPaint right now, you might want to wait for the next version? I haven't got a clue when Maxon will release it, but it seems logical to expect it somewhere in the near future - given the last update date.
Perhaps Srek knows more? Or to be more precise: perhaps Srek is allowed to tell us a little bit of what he, without a doubt, knows?
Cheers,

as a hobbyist or just getting into making money off your work i suggest letting your work decide if you need to purchase something else too many people end up chasing the brass ring and never advance thier art personally.........i hope u undaerstand what i am saying
