Hey there, I am making a clothing 'yardage' (the pattern on the clothes) and was wondering if in Illustrator there is a way to make groups an 'instance' of a parent group, so that when you update the original/parent the other instances/copies change too.

Take a look at the pics below to help illustrate what I mean.

Is there a plug-in? Or would the best way be to make it a file and then import it in and repeatedily update the link... Hmm confusing lol

Any help woudl be greatly appreciated. Thanks :D

Have you tried using Symbols yet? They can do what your after.

Have a look at http://www.tutorialized.com/view/tutorial/Grass-using-symbols/10911 if you haven't used them before.
