Looking good, Kei! The scene reads very clearly even at this small sketch size.
Is it just juggling balls? What about having it juggle something larger and funnier - like clowns?! :) Anyhow, looking forward to seeing you flech it out more. Have fun!

Kei,
I love your idea,Your are such an inspiration, I so want to see that show.:scream:
I also like more the prepective from the right, since the vertical lines help better catch the eye for the umbalance of the behaviour of this charming dragon or hydra?...hope to see some more of your great world ...

Just dropping by to see your entry, thanks for leaving a comment! I just checked out some of the stuff on your portfolio, and i can't wait till I see how this one will turn out. I really like ur painting style, design, and colors. How long do u plan to work on this?

Kei-Acedera
07-07-2007, 01:21 AM
Slav--dont worry, its coming real soon :)

walrus- lol glad you can make out what's happening from this tiny skecth..I'm not sure yet what he's going to be juggling..hopefully something simple yet funny coz I want the focus on the jump and the dragons..but the clowns are a funny idea!

AxelAlonso- Awww thanks so much! youre too kind..Yes, I pictured this show sort of like "Cirque du Soleil" meets myhtical creatures.. I would like to go to that show too :)!

beelow- Thank you!! Yeah what changed my mind about the first thumbnail was that I wanted a ring of fire instead of a loop.. but I'll post more of my progressions soon..

digital-bobert- hehehe thanks Bobby!

W-I-L- that's ok, I'll post a more detailed sketch soon.

kingjai- Thanks so much! Glad you liked my other work.. I'm not sure how long I plan to work on this..because of work and such, I just want to really do my best and take my time :)

Fantasy circus are always a place where dreams/nightmare/strangeness appear.
That's a good choice, and your thumbnails is appealing ; Great !
I think lights will be interesting with your 2 bigs & larges points of fire orange/red strong light ( with the fire circle, and the "clown monster beast" flame )

Hey hey, strong light will force you to detail all the publics heads :D
It will be fun to see, but surely long to do...

... Good luck !

Here are some color studies... I've chosen to go with the one on the right end.

chrisbeaver
07-09-2007, 06:18 AM
Very cool! I like the first or second ones most; there's something really striking about the blue/yellow color scheme. It's the hippest of the complementaries somehow.

It makes me think of King Ghidorah from the old Godzilla movies, which just makes it funnier to me :D Good luck on the challenge! From the replies I've read you seem to have a lot of people with high hopes for you -- and from your CGPortfolio, I can see why.

Wow Kei,
Lovely color scheme palette,:) I think the best one is the last one as you wisely choose already , the pink fire seems to me, more mystic and definitely more interesting as strange to came out from a creature of the show biasness haha..the weight of the fore ground and back ground on value seem to be fine, warm vs. cold really good and ivating for a main show. And the detail of the poster in the back was a nice touch. Really expecting more updates...

07-09-2007, 11:08 AM
i love multi headed dragons, and your works. so i will definitely keep a pair of eyes on this.
i agree the far right color scheme is the best of the three. its a circus and benefits from colors! even though i love night mood pics. MORE! :wip:

Hi Kei,

I love them like everyone else :arteest:
..I like the serpent ones, just because its more strange that for me, he looks more creature like…and he’s doing that “Cirque du Soleil” show, so it’s a bit less unexpected for his features…but both are awesomely fantastic!
I love that Cirque to; I still want to see the “O” show in Las Vegas, coz when I went they were sold out  .. and love the music, one of my friends sing in “Mystere” she’s so talented! Like you…looking forward for more updates Kei! Excellent work:applause:

Tis entry is just brilliant, composition sketches were nice but now this dragon concepts are giving me some ideas of the final piece. Very promising development here, I cant wait to see the creature finished with multiple expressions. imho on the two rendered the one in the rights looks better. I got nothing but good words for you now, wish I can be more constructive on this entry but is early stage. Looking forward for your updates

Deevad- Thanks David! This page probably took around 40 mins-1 hr..I really couldnt tell how long really especially when ideas keep coming up and I just have to sketch them out really fast to get the next ones down and I wanna make slight changes and such..time really doesnt matter, just as long as you 're able to put down on paper what you really have in mind.

Art2- lol thanks for the input! Yeah I'll try to paint a beady-eye version to really see the difference ;)

Goro- Thanks so much!! yours are fantastic!

I'm downright jealous of your sketching talents! Where did you learn to do dragons so well??

We need an update. My favorite dragon head so far is the really evil one right above the left hand painted one, the apologetic looking one and the large chinned one at the top. They all have such great expressions. :applause: And you did earn an 'awwww' with the one at the far left, the cute little one with the little black eyes.

Just had an idea- you could have your main dragon as a mother dragon and a tiny little three headed dragon behind her learning the tricks of the trade. :D

Hi Kei,

Being at the same challenge with you and Bobby is cheerful after following the imaginismstudios and you in high spirits.
The concept that you based on dragons is full of quality and fun as usual as your other concepts. Dragon is one of the
best creature for designing in different ways. And your sketches show how imaginative as possible as it could be.
Following your thread will be cheerful!

Good luck, Cheers!

Hi Kei,

My favorite ringmaster is the one you choose to colour test - in the middle beside the colour thumbnail.
She is a great "look at me" personality, reflected in the pose. She is the star of the show and in charge of everything! Like her dynamic pose, that chin-up and hips-forward attitude.

Wonderful!

Lovely sketch, Kei! Their expressions are priceless. And I love how you've set up the foreground bridge to frame to frame the composition. Are the cars supposed to be moving or crashed or just stopped? Depending on which, it might be a nice small touch to add a throng of people by the railing looking out at the sea-"monsters," pointing, with cameras, etcetera (along with some car doors open and such.) But of course, it's a small detail, and it's not like you don't have enough of those to cover in the next 2 weeks! ;)
Anyhow, good luck pulling it together quickly.... Have fun!

Lovely piece, your new one, it's just so cute! I'm although slightly more fond of the first one, if I may say so, maybe because of the circus stuff going on. On the other hand, the familiar scene with the dragon mum suits better the challenge theme... but the circus... Haha, going in circles here! Any one of them looks terrific! This is looking really nice, Kei! The details in the water and all around the picture are really bringing it to life. I'm sure the cars are an awful lot of work, but I have no doubt they'll really help make the peice as well. I also love the subtle play of light through the membranes on their fins - very subtle and effective!

In the coloring process, the mother's mouth has lost the clarity that it had in the earlier sketch. It's a lot harder now to make out the expression because the skin is as dark as the line for the mouth, and the bright teeth grab all the attention on the screen-left side of the face. Taking down the teeth a bit and pumping up the hilights and dark line fo the motuh could help a bit... Good luck with it!

Here's the real story: I almost wasn't able to submit this piece because as I finally finished and had everything saved, my computer suddenly decided to stop working. It was a nightmare. I tried everything to restart or reboot my computer but Windows wouldn't run!!

Luckily, after a few days, my brother was able to retrieve my files! (I'm so fortunate to have such a computer-savy brother!) He said its time to retire my ol' computer.

So here it is, (all thanks to my brother)..

Even baby sea dragons need bath toys to keep them occupied so they don't figet too much while they're being washed.

Hope you guys like it!
