View Full Version : Motion Builder animation back into 3DS Max
icelander360 06-27-2007, 09:03 PM I am trying to apply some motion capture data to an actor and then apply the actor's movements to my character. I get this far and then plot the animation from the actor to the character. What is the best way to get that animation back into 3ds Max? I have tried exporting the animation as an FBX file with just the animation and then importing onto my character in 3DS Max but the animation is not there. I also just try to export out of MB and then import into 3DS Max, but again no animation and also some weird deformations. Has anyone been sucessful at this? I am using 3DS Max 8 and Motion Builder 7.5 and I have the latest FBX plug-in installed in Max.
Thank you.

In max import fbx file with plotted animation using exclusive merge. If names are the same in mobu and max animation will transfer.
That's all. :)

I have tried that several times. It is putting my character into the pose of the first frame of animation but there is no actual animation on it. If you hit play nothing happens and I checked and there are no animaiton keys. Is there something I need to do in MB before exporting? I have been exporting as an .fbx with animation only. And also before exporting I plot the animation from the actor to the skeleton of the character. Or if I use a control rig I plot the animation from that to the character's skeleton.

Check if animation is plotted propely in MB. Check if in import dialog animation checkbox is marked. Character changes pose on start, so names are correct.
Hard to say, you can always send me files so I'll take a look.
Cheers.
